    Default Which Model is This?

I bought this Sheaffer Vacuum Fill pen long ago, mostly for its Western fine Triumph nib, a thing of beautiful design and perfect manufacture. I had it restored and it became a favourite. It must have been during one of our many house moves that it was safely stored away and subsequently forgotten about.

It was only at the weekend that I found it after many years on the MIA list. To my surprise it filled perfectly. I've never known much about Sheaffer's many models. It's clearly a quality pen with its white dot, broad plated cap band and two-tone nib. I can only assume that it's older than I am and cost quite a bit when new. It's 13cm capped. It writes beautifully and I'm very lucky to have found it after all these years. Could someone tell me its model name and date?

Wow that is one heck of a find after such a long time, Eachan.

Of the myriad of Sheaffer Balance models (and their variations), that one with its striking cap band is one of my favorites.

I had this one in the Tuckaway size which was made without a clip.

Now that I saw this photo again, I kinda miss it

    Lovely pen, Will!

My pen was missing for about 15 years. Too much stuff in this house.

Nice one, Eachan - we're twins! Here's a shot of mine from a couple years back, paired with a Targa that came along a couple decades later:

and that when Truth and Error have fair Play, the former is always an overmatch for the latter."

Does yours have a plain band, Jon? That's a very nice Targa. My EDC was a Targa for years but it was just a brushed steel one.

No, it has the lined band, which I believe they all did, that was just a poorly focused phone photo. This one shows better, including the cartouche area for engraving:

Sheaffer did not count the Triumph among its Balance models. The former began and the latter ended in '42.

I'll defer to your knowledge and experience as a collector.

I have long given up on keeping track of Sheaffer models and variations in details.

Confusing Sheaffer model name help: http://dirck.delint.ca/beta/?page_id=6959 (But even that can still leave you guessing sometimes.)
