These pics (apologies for the rough photography), show the thing. It's a piston ink cartridge, and I think that the end of the piston screw gets stuck in the tapered body, and so it needs to be pulled out with small jeweller's pliers. Strange (but nice) thing really, when you pull the top off it you just sit there wondering what to do with it because it doesn't slip on to the end of the body. This will be a nice writer I think, but it does need running in.
Chances are that this has been on a shelf for 30 years - since my dear ol' dad kicked the bucket. I feel I'd like to pull the knib assembly out to clean it all.
