Default Oh NO. My Wall st is falling apart

    Hi All,
Need help. My Visconti Wall st which I've had for 6 years has just come apart as shown.
Dont want to glue it with Super glue or any glue until I know what I can use or should do.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Nick

PS Hopefully attached now. It was earlier but you could only see it in Print preview (? - weird)

First suggestion: make a 2nd attempt at uploading/posting photos, as nothing is shown in the first post.
Second suggestion: don't do a repair yourself unless there is a really good reason to not have someone who does this as a vocation do it for you. Maybe even the manufacturer.

There ya go, Nick. I've uploaded it here, as I'm not sure whether Dropbox likes hot linking. As to the break, not within my scope of knowledge, but in general "super glue" usually seems to be a no-no in pen repair. Very wise to wait and see what a more knowledgable person suggests. Oh, and nice pen.

Thanks for the info. Didn't know that but don't click on them anyway.

thanks for that. I decided to attach inline, rather than URL the image. You're probably correct, its a Dropbox issue.

In an ideal world you should preferably use an adhesive that is reversible. However, that's probably what Visconti originally did and the seal has failed. Shellac isn't strong enough so if it was my pen I would use an adhesive suitable for gluing together pieces of model aircraft like H.M.G. heat and waterproof adhesive. I know I can reverse that should I ever need to. If you can't get something like that then you would have to use a 2 part epoxy resin but most of them are non-reversible. Whatever you use remember the glueing maxim: less is best and only use the slightest smear so you don't get any glue anywhere else inside the pen or on the threads.

why not take it back where you bought it and let the shop earn his salary? It is 6 y.o. you say. New, IMO. Send it to the manufacturer even though they never answer emails, thieves!!! But this tells me to stay away from this brand as well. There are a few that after reading about accidents on this forum I've not bothered looking into anymore

That is the LE version with matching section (not metal) and that @&#! dual chamber filling apparatus next to the section. I would not apply glue there without knowing what I'm doing. Let a pro make the repair.

Fair enough, but sometimes life is too short to stand in a line and wait for a pro. Life is definitely too short to wait for Visconti to repair it. If it was my pen I would do it myself.

Above and beyond all else, unless you know the bonding agents particular properties and effects, you are running a great risk doing it yourself. I say that because the break is right at the transparent section, and many glues and solvents will turn that area completely cloudy and opaque, ruining the transparent aspect. I'd never be able to look at the pen the same way if I cocked it up like that, so I would definitely consider sending either to Visconti or someone who really knows the materials and adhesives well enough to effect the repair without collateral damage.

Does the section screw in? How did it come apart?

I don't think something is broken, the section just came loose from its ink window seat.
Never handled such a pen so I'm not fully sure, but I expect the section should be secured on the ink window using epoxy glue.

Thankyou to everyone for all the responses.
Agree with everyone actually - not that its going to help me though.
    1. YES, I cant wait for Visconti
    2. Dont know anyone in Australia to send the pen to
    3. Dont want to botch the pen by applying a glue that melts the celluloid or plastic or whatever it is
    4. The part thats come apart doesnt screw in
    5. Cant believe an expensive pen like a Visconti has come apart. My other Visconti's are fine which are different models.

I probably will try the epoxy if I dont get any more info.

    Thanks again all.
    Very much appreciated.

I would put the tiniest dot onto the point of a cocktail stick and carefully only apply it around the plastic part that will slide back into the section. Like applying the smallest amount of shellac around a sac peg.

My Conway Stewart Churchill did the same thing. I included it in a box of pens I was sending to repair to Danny Fudge & it was reattached & has remained so after its return.

Mine was probably three years old after I noticed it & didn't want to involve the new owners of Conway Stewart to repair a pen they had not sold besides sending it across the pond. I trusted Mr. Fudge to make the right decision in reattaching it & he surely did.
