    Default UK Shortages - Latest

Here in the UK a shortage of a Heavy Goods Vehicle drivers led to a shortage of petrol (gasoline) due to tankers not getting the fuel to the pumps at petrol (gas) stations. Panic buying ensured it was made much worse with long queues and some areas running out of fuel altogether. The more they reported about the shortage, the worse it became.

There are also shortages of various foods and other goods in supermarkets. This too was exacerbated by panic buying of certain items. (Why are toilet rolls always the first thing to completely sell out?)

Just to add a light hearted slant to all of this we saw a blackboard outside a public house that we passed yesterday.

It read: Beer shortage coming. Panic buy Here!

If people installed bidets then there wouldn't be panic buying of bog rolls. Of course then you have to weigh the relative economic and resource cost: paper vs water. Just something to think about if you're sitting in an idle moment!

Looks like the price of chickens will be going up dramatically in the UK also. Here in California I am typically seeing USD$6.58/kg for whole chicken. Sometimes it goes down to USD$4.38/kg if there is a really good sale at the market. Parts of course are much more expensive.

Boris seems to be rather short on integrity and common sense.

I understand that some legislation affecting pig farming has recently been enacted that will adversely affect bacon, pork, and ham prices. What's the story there?

I'm not sure on legislation but I know we've had a shortage of people to slaughter the pigs so a lot have had to be destroyed on the farms and the body's burnt, I'm not sure why they have to do it but I'm sure it will cause an increase in the price of pork

This is just a joke in The Lounge. It therefore appears in the regular list of New Posts. It's not a thread in the Politics forum and posts in there don't appear in the regular list of New Posts. Before this thread diverts off topic, if you wouldn't mind, please feel free to discuss politics in it's own forum.

To me, Boris seems to be more in the realm of jokes than politics.
