Default I think I got scammed

UPDATE: I reported the seller to ebay for selling fakes. I also requested and was given a refund from the seller.

I bought a Montblanc 145 on ebay. The seller claimed it was a display pen in a store and although un-inked it couldn't be sold as new because the box was opened. Which seemed legit to me and the sellers feedback was excellent.
I inspected the pen when I got it and it looked very nice. No flaws that would give away the fact it could be fake.
I inked it with De Atrimentis Edgar Allen Poe and started to write a letter with it. It was nice and wet at first( medium nib). Then it began to write dry until it stopped writing altogether. I looked at it under magnification and nothing was wrong with the tines that I could see. Writing was scratchy and not smooth as well. For a Montblanc I expected it to write like a dream.

I'm attaching some photos of the box which I find suspicious and the converter which I also find suspicious. It isn't removable and plastic. I find it odd that there is a sticker over the Montblanc logos.

I'd vote fake. That converter gives it away:

Add a plastic ball or steel ball or part of a ball point spring to the converter to stop vapor lock....Is a problem with lots of converters.
But will wait for more MB fake converter pictures to be sure.
    .................
I didn't know if the box was opened, it couldn't be sold as new. But folks that don't get to B&M's don't see pens on artistic plastic display holders in glass door cabinets, and get the pen put in the box after you have tested it; then bought it.

Perhaps that is an online 'law', that says you can't look inside the box to make sure the right pen is in it.....??????
    That sounds scammy to me.

Plenty of clues but the gap between Mont and Blanc would do it for me
Don't bother telling me what to do, say or think because I will do the opposite

There were pictures of the pen inside the box with the box lid open.
Looking at the original posting there were no pictures of the pen uncapped or with the barrel unscrewed to show the converter.

Sorry but everything there is definitely fake. For a start both the box and converter are obvious fakes. Montblanc never made a converter like that and the internal part of their box is firm and not shaped exactly like that. The sticker inside the lid of the box probably hides the fake black snowcap logo and the sticker on the front cover of the warranty booklet almost hides the fact that there is no correct space between the words writing and instruments. All pointers for the original common fakes. The fake converter does not fit into a Montblanc pen.

It's actually worse than if it was a mistaken fake. These are deliberate acts from a seller who knows it's a fake and they are designed to fool a buyer.

Report it straight to ebay and you will get your money back. The coin is in the air whether you will have to return it or not. I would phone and ask them about this because the only current option to check is to Request a Return

I find it amusing that would-be fakers don't realize that Montblanc is one word.

Yes, the current stylized logo that's sometimes used has the word MONT over BLANC in block letters, but on one line I always see it written consistent with one word.

Update: l reported them to ebay for selling fakes. I asked them some questions about their military service. They claimed to be a veteran. I got a reply from another person who said the owner is sick with Covid and isn't doing well.
They said the pens come directly from Montblanc with stickers and the converter glued inside.

All red flags these pens are fakes.

As a Vet; as many are honest as any other group with out an arrest sheet.
    Some vets have that too.
A cheat is a cheat.....period. Get your money back.
Sick Vet, or vet with sick cat.....get your money back.

I chase piston pens mostly. The c/c pens that fell into my hands were not hunted. So I don't understand why someone would hunt expensive cartridge pens or even cheap ones.......... Cartridges have been very expensive (compared to bottled ink) since the '50's and will remain so.
Converters or needle fill makes for affordable use.

Why a 144? What factor made you look at that one, than others?

They gave me my money back as soon as I requested a refund.

I wanted a Montblanc regardless of the model. This pen was reasonably priced so I bought it.

Ebay gave you a full refund? I knew they would. Did they make the seller send you a prepaid label to get the fake pen back or did he not want it?

No, the seller gave me the refund. That said to me they know they know that they are fakes. They let me keep the pen. Which I also think is another sign it was fake. If it was legit they would have sent me a return label. I think these people were outside the US using a US address to drop ship their pens.

Yes, I did. Ebay said they can't( or won't) tell me the results of their investigation.

Glad you got a refund. I hate it when Sellers try to scam customers with fakes/counterfeits/"authentic reproductions".

Perhaps no human ever looked into it, and it was left to computer algorithms to resolve the matter (at least until an impasse between the parties).
