Default Kaweco Dia 2 - Kaweco's most underrated pen?

Just posted some thoughts on the Kaweco DIa 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_9rXDCROok

In a recent video with Joest Appelboom, the Kaweco CEO called the Dia 2 his most underrated pen, so I decided to check one out myself.

I've considered buying a Dia 2, but haven't --- yet. I'll have to correct that.

Good review. I bought one based on Ray-VIgo's thread roughly a year ago. I liked it so much I bought the amber LE version I had been eyeing for sometime.

It's very well constructed and I like the heft. It seems to be built like a tank. For under $100 it's hard to go wrong with one.

I liked it when I wrote with it and reviewed it for Kaweco. Actually, I regret sending it back to them rather than buying it afterwards.

I've had a Dia2 for a number of years, and it's stayed filled the whole time. The one thing that I don't like is the dinky nib. But you can buy a larger Bock nib that fits in the pen for about $25. Worth the money IMO.

Funny that this thread came back up, and I pulled out a Dia II for rotation a week or so ago.

The Bock 076 nib is a "wide shouldered" #5 that swaps directly for the dinky 060 Ron mentioned. I actually emailed Kaweco with "hey, you know this better looking nib fits, right?", and got an answer and request for pics. We'll see if anything ever comes of that.

While I was poking around Bock's site, I noticed the 180 is the same length as the 076 - but without the wider shoulders. I ordered a few and they should be here in the next week or so (hopefully). Tracking says they're departing the UK as I type this. I'll post some comparison pics when they get here.

    References on Bock's site:

Bock 060 (the standard Kaweco nib)
Bock 076 ("upgrade" I've been using)
Bock 180 (most common #5 Bock nib).

Now you're all making me want a Dia 2 even more than I did after I made the mistake of not accepting Kaweco's offer of buying it after reviewing it. That marbled amber one looks so very tempting especially just after I sold my beautiful Stipula Etruria.

Where are these Bock nibs arriving from?

Is the factory feed up to the task, or should that be replaced as well? Should a replacement housing be purchased with the larger nib?

You get the whole nib unit and swap them out. Collars are the same size, but since the nib is longer, the feed is as well.

What Ron said, just unscrew the old unit and screw in the new. They’re sold complete (nib, feed and sleeve), hence the “triple” moniker.

NGL, I have this pen on my list now, along with the matching rollerball.

The Amber one? Prices are good on them now. Snatch one up.

    -edit-

For what it's worth to the thread, I ended up back with the little 060, albeit 14k. I like it best.

    For now anyway... ; )

Dia 2 is cool, the most underrated Kaweco is the Student.

I’ve been looking at both the Kaweco Dia2 and the Original 250. Seems that the 250 would solve the problem of Dia2’s small nib. The 250 is also made of aluminum as opposed to the Dia2’s plastic construction. However, in photos the Dia2 is better looking—IMO. Any opinions on virtues of Dia2 vs Original 250?

    Hello,

Having read the thread, and seeing that the Dia 2 is held in quite high esteem, I am so glad, as a fountain pen heathen (for the time being), I chose a pen on beauty alone.
I've had the Kaweco Dia 2 now for just over a week, and I've had to refill the pen once already, and the second time will be later today. I can't put it down.
On a forum, where so many people are so talented with their penmanship/penwomanship that it brings a lump to the throat of a grown man, I can see my handwriting getting better by the day. My writing, a week or so ago, looked like a drunken spider had trod in a pot of ink and danced across paper, to something resembling that of a jockey writing whilst riding in the Grand National. I am so happy. I don't (yet) understand the terminology that you gifted peers use, but to me, it writes like a dream with the nib it came with.

    Hello,

Thank you for the encouragement, Deb.
I have written so much lately with the pen, but it will be going into the pen case shortly. Not for long, just a little rest because I have 2 more new pens arriving shortly.
My very first purchase of vintage pens which I will remember for the rest of my life.
    I can't wait.
