Default Ink Review: New Cult Pens Iridescink Becky (Made by Diamine Inks)

Cult Pens Iridescink Becky is one of the three latest new iridescent sheening inks that are exclusively made for Cult Pens by Diamine Inks. Cult Pens describe their Iridescinks as being a bit different and a bit more unusual because they are made to sheen.

Becky is a quite well saturated, dark brown ink that has some attractive contrasting blue sheen. It is a dark chocolate type of brown - one of the darkest brown inks I have tried.

Becky flowed very well with all of the pens I tried it in, didn’t feel dry, and it’s lubrication was nicely smooth across the page. It dried fairly quickly on most of the papers I wrote on and didn’t smear after it was dry.

My Lamy pen always started up immediately when filled with Becky, even after I put it down, uncapped, while I did swab tests and comparisons with other inks.

In order to see the most blue sheen, it’s better to write with pens that lay down plenty of ink, and use smooth, non-absorbent paper.

Available in 80ml bottles from Cult Pens web-site. Thank you Cult Pens for my sample.

    • Flow Rate: Very good - not dry.
    • Lubrication: Very good - smooth across the page.
    • Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
    • Start-up: Immediate.
    • Saturation: Medium to high saturation.
    • Shading Potential: Not much seen.
    • Sheen: Some seen on smooth papers.
    • Show-Through: Not much seen on the papers I used.
    • Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Not seen on any paper I used.
    • Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not seen, even after several days in the pen.
    • Staining (pen): Not seen after several days - easy clean-up.
    • Staining (hands): Washed off of my hands easily.
    • Clogging: Not seen.
    • Water resistance: Not sold as waterproof, but shows some water resistance.

Thanks Chrissy for such delightful review. Is it as dark as Doyou?

Great review - I'm a sucker for a good, dark brown ink. I'll have to look into this one (as long as the shipping costs aren't too ridiculous).

You're welcome. Not quite as dark as doyou. Becky looks a little bit more brown. When I write with doyou I can't always tell it isn't black.

Since posting this review Cult Pens has also issued this ink in plastic 30ml bottles. It's called "Little Becks" as a 30ml bottle that usually costs £3.99.
However all Diamine inks including Cult Pens inks are currently on offer for 10% discount in the Cult Pens Winter Sale.
