Default In search of Fude resources.

Friends, I'm having a blast with these fude nibs over here.

I think I've got 4 fudes inked up right now, and there's never been a better nib for working out with polychromatic or high-shading inks.

Stacked nibs are fun and I am coming around to the idea that bent nibs are more fun and far more accessible.

    So.

I'm guessing my ham-handed fude noodlings are as crude and unfortunate as my early experiments with flex. After years (like 5 years!) of work and practice with flex nibs I can get around pretty well with them.

So now I'm looking for an entree into fude technique. I understand there may not be one that doesn't involve learning and writing kanji.

I'd appreciate links, books or names of US-based teachers if you know any. Thanks!

I had to look it up: fude. Here I've been using Sheaffer Triumph fudes for years without knowing it.

What a name, though. I keep thinking of Gary Larson's classic fud (same pronunciation?):

The plural of fude is fude. It is a Japanese term. They do not add an 's' so why should we? 😜

I own about a dozen, maybe more if you include the Jinhao Sharks. And I suggest simply playing around with them. With the pen held at a low angle, the line will come out thick. At a high angle, thinner.

Flip any of them upside-down, and you have a very fine, consistent line. They are also fun for drawing.

With pages of practice, you can easily, cough, manoeuver your fude.

(The conical Triumph nibs are designed for smooth writing and are more of a Waverly affair than true fude.)

    PS: Pronounced foo-day.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

As noted above, simply using them a lot will get you far. Personally I enjoy drawing with them and also can write Chinese if I want due to my heritage. It's sometimes relaxing to simply make pages of patterns without trying to make anything in particular. On Instagram @janinescribbles does a lot of lettering with them.

Bro, no clever retort, just follow https://www.instagram.com/tokyostationpens/ on your IG feed for some fude stuff.

I got several Jinhao 450a with fude nibs. I really love the way the nib works...especially for calligraphic texts with Gothic/ cursive inspired flair. When writing with these nibs, I often notice the nib changing direction without I even noticing. I guess, why it is inspired from the brush......the nib truly liberates the hand from the critical mind....
