Who else loves to swap nibs? I’m working on a pen design that will provide writers the ability to swap virtually any open face nib and I have come up with some pretty cool ideas. It’s always annoying when you find a nib you love, but the pen’s ergonomics or design doesn’t fit you. It’s even more frustrating when pen companies make their parts proprietary. Unfortunately, these companies usually make the best nibs. So I’ve set out to make a pen that eliminates all the hassle and potential damage that comes with trying to fit your favorite nib into a pen that fits their hand and style.
My inspiration came when I saw a Conid sporting a Montblanc nib. I love these nibs and have a few myself, but the 149’s body isn’t practical for me. So my design ideas include using a section system that uses a grommet or sleeve to fit around smaller nib units, and making a section with threaded inserts that can be removed to give more clearance for larger nib units.
If anyone has any experience or suggestions please let me know. Below is an proof of concept.
