I've seen a review that says Sanzen S paper has more tooth/drag/feedback than the original Tomoegawa paper. Does this align with your experience, migo984?

Not at all. I very much dislike the “new” Tomoe paper, that was produced after the original milling machine was shut, and Tomoegawa changed its manufacturing policies and direction, and of course the replacement is still being widely sold, in sheets & notebooks. But I avoid it.

The Sanzen ‘S’ is much, much better than ‘new’ TR. It is very smooth and I don’t experience any toothiness or drag. Ghosting is slightly reduced too. It’s also 100% better than Cosmo Air Light and Cosmo Air Snow, which is toothy and makes inked lines spread. Sanzen S isn’t quite as ‘silky” as original TR but it’s a very very acceptable alternative.

Talk is that they will also be releasing a 68gsm in future - but I didn’t like 68gsm Tomoegawa so I won’t be in the market for that.

    HTH.

    That's awesome. Thanks.

I've looked at some websites for the Sanzen S but the prices have been a bit higher than is comfortable for me. Anyway I thought to ask as you are an artist and perhaps best positioned to comment on the quality.

I’m happy to pop some sheets in the post to you, ‘to try before you buy’?

That's a kind offer. If you don't mind I will take a rain check on it for now. One of the services that I can access through my university is space on shipping pallets from many places worldwide and at costs much lower than other options. I will have to look into the local (Japan) prices for this paper, because if it is significantly lower than online reseller prices it will be worth it for me to consider ordering multiple reams. If it's not then it would be outside of what I am prepared to pay though.
