    Default My Latest Deacquisition

Two Parker Insignia fountain pens. Never wrote with them. On to ebay.
Prior to these, two P51 demi pen and pencil sets and one Pelikan M300 with EF, F and M nibs.

    Downsizing.

Have you considered placing your pens for sale on this site?

Yes, I have considered it, but some pens I am unsure of how to price. In those cases an auction site is a help. The Parker Insignias are a case in point. I had no idea of what someone would pay today, so I put them on ebay. They sold for $32 and $25. They are uninked. Ebay prices items sold for are a help in pricing as well.

I think this is a good idea of a thread.

De-cluttering or de-stashing is always a good exercise to go through in this hobby. And being able to publish it even post-sale, may help to bring "closure" (for lack of a better, less serious word).

Of course, I'm talking here from the perspective of a collector, which is one of the two hats I wear in this hobby.

My other hat, which is that of a restorer, requires almost a completely different mindset and process.

Being a collector doesn't mean you have to collect everything. I think I kind of got lost trying all sorts of pens, trying to find something I might like better than Parker 51s. I think I might have been better off just collecting the occasional 51. trying Montblanc 146 and 149 helped me find that these icons were not better for me. Looking for a better pen in some corners was probably foolish. I did find a few I liked beyond the P51. Now uncluttering is appropriate.

That's the opposite of me...I tend to like EVERYTHING, with just a few notable exceptions (too thin, too heavy, metal sections).

At least I'm more than happy with the cheap stuff, and it doesn't hurt to give them away.

I give some away as long as I don't think I am going to pass along problems.

My latest was my 1950s Parker Slimfold with a semiflex Medium. And a 1940s Eversharp skyline with a semiflex EF. Went to the buyer packed with some ink samples, pen pillow, and an antique pencil.

My latest deaquisition was this Pelikan IBIS. I sold it to a collector friend for a very low price, only because I wanted to be sure the pen does fond a good home:

Of course I have a second one of this

I am selling pens since the time I started collecting pens. It's important to me to keep the collection small, but well curated. The deaquisition is also necessary to get funds for new aquisitions.

When it comes to pens for daily use, I am with pajaro. I am writing since years with the same couple of pens.

I also find this an interesting topic and will post regularly when I will have sold another pen.

Now dumping off a MB 144 black EF. Too thin for me to read. Selling pens is almost more fun than buying them. One less pen to worry about.

I see this on other collector type forums where folks acquire many things, some never used, then feel the need to sell off. It would be interesting to know how common this might be. It all reminds me of a saying, "a person with a watch knows what time it is; a person with two watches is never quite sure". LOL!!

I never got too deep and had an MB experience in the early '90's. My self-restored Esterbrook and Autopoint pencils are permanently ensconced in a fancy coffee cup.

Good luck in your sell off.

I have been there. At 73 I am selling off most of the pens. There is one P51 and one MB 144 my heirs can sell. The rest I just don't care so much about. Just as buying the pens was fun, selling them is fun too. I need a few items for my N scale layout.

I’m starting to take more of a quality over quantity approach so I’m letting some of my less loved pens go.

    Just sold:
    Platinum Curidas
    Diplomat Magnum
    Nemosine demo with .6 stub

    Next to sell:
2 TWSBI GOs with F and B nibs
