Question Good Fountain Pen Ink For Regular Typing/Copy/Notebook Paper?

For bottled ink, which is the best budget brand black ink for regular typing/copy/notebook paper using a fountain pen?
I can only shop online. If it isn't available on Amazon or Jet One, I'll need to know who has it.

I am guessing that India Ink will gum-up my pens/ink adapters, and nibs after a short period of no use or possibly use.
(tho I might get a bottle of India Ink and try my hand at Scrimshaw.)

I don't have an ink blotter. The ink the came with my fountain pen soaks in/spreads.

    Thanks in advance.

I'd go with a Diamine black. There are several to choose from including Jet Black and Onyx Black. Diamine is great ink and a trusted brand. It's also reasonably priced. Amazon and just about every pen/ink retailer stocks it. Parker black is also an option.

That the ink that came with your pen spreads is probably a paper issue. Try a paper that has a 'hard' surface.

As for blotting, most any paper on which ink tends to feather has proved to be serviceable substitute. Just don't move it while trying to blot up excess ink.

Budget black for regular paper? Take a look at Parker Quink, Waterman, Sheaffer Skrip or Pelikan 4001.

I used to be able to find Quink at Staples - well, Black Quink, no other color. I found some locally recently, but it is not in their online catalog, so maybe what was at my store was just what was hanging around - but you might get lucky if Staples is not out of your way.

    Is water resistance a requirement?

Which ink did you use so far?

    You mention feathering.
Do you want to write on any type of paper, extremely spoken down to quality of toilet paper?

Monteverde Onyx or Black Ash. Pretty sure Amazon has those.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

Here's a bunch of different inks on copy paper....mostly just any old ink !
The ones that bled a little bit were down to very wet writers

I'd say pretty much any black ink will work , except on rubbish paper !

So it does come down to the paper!
Most readily available paper these days is not suitable for ink.

Stay away from India inks , except maybe with a dipper , and even then they need washing out regularly.

Blotting is usually not necessary....just let the ink dry by itself.

If you can live with a very dark blue-black I would recommend ESS Registrars Blue-Black.
It‘s a top performing modern iron gall ink which performs great on even the worst paper.
You can literally write with this ink on toilet paper.
ESS ships worldwide at reasonable prices.

All true. I have a bottle. My one suggestion is that ome might consider a more frequent cleaning regimen.

Fortunately my work got all the old stuff cleared out of the pipelines, but we had some stuff that was absolutely terrible and I couldn't find an ink that would behave well on it. The best I managed was Waterman Serenity Blue out of a dry writing fine Parker 51, but even inks like Diamine Registrars and, in the distant past, Noodlers X-Feather, didn't work. Suprisingly enough, one well behaved ink on it was Parker Penman Ebony, but this is also a fairly viscous ink.

With less crummy paper of what I'd call current typical quality(what we have is Hammermill 20lb-in my own testing I had decent luck with the Office Depot brand 20lb paper) I get pretty decent performance out of what's I'd call most normal inks. Red, green, and blue are all normal colors I need to use. Pretty much any standard blue(Pelikan, Waterman, Quink, Montblanc) out of anything short of a firehose nib is good to go as inks from these brands that don't go crazy on their color loading. I've found some of the more normal Diamines(none of the specialty sheen or shimmer stuff) well behaved also. Pen brand inks, as a general rule, are easy to find on Amazon IME.

When in doubt, go for an iron gall. Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black unfortunately is difficult to find in the US(only through unofficial channels as AFAIK Pelikan officially withdrew it from the US market), but is a good all around well behaved ink and since its iron content is fairly low its not as "scary" of an ink as something like Diamine or ESSRI Registrars. I have a bottle of TWSBI branded blue black that seems to otherwise behave similarly.

I’ve used plain Pilot / Namiki black, and it behaves quite well on Staples regular copy paper.
