Read yesterday about Goby having an interaction with Trump. Apparently that got the ball rolling.

Boom. Three more felony convictions (of various kinds).

NBC News: Trump-appointed judge convicts three Jan. 6 defendants but acquits two of them on obstruction charge.

Surely Trump will at some time have to pay for his political sins no different from those who followed him. Otherwise, there is no justice, and the rule of law does not apply to all equally.

It is already true, across the land, that the law is not applied equally in America.

Jan. 6 Rioter Wearing ‘Camp Auschwitz’ Sweatshirt Gets 75 Days in Prison

    By McKenna Oxenden
    Sept. 15, 2022

A Virginia man who wore a sweatshirt with the words “Camp Auschwitz” across his chest as he breached the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was sentenced on Thursday to 75 days in prison, officials said.

Robert Keith Packer, 57, of Newport News, was arrested about a week after the insurrection and pleaded guilty in January to one count of parading, demonstrating or picketing in the Capitol building. In addition to his prison time, which aligned with what prosecutors had requested, Mr. Packer must pay $500 in restitution.

Judge Carl J. Nichols of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia said during a virtual court hearing that although there was no evidence that Mr. Packer had used violence against officers, his sweatshirt was “incredibly offensive,” according to NBC News. The judge also said he felt that Mr. Packer’s apology was lacking, compared with those of other defendants who were charged in the riot.

“It seems to me that he wore that sweatshirt for a reason,” Judge Nichols said. “We don’t know what that reason was, because Mr. Packer hasn’t told us.”

Mr. Packer’s lawyer, Stephen F. Brennwald, acknowledged that his client’s outfit was “seriously offensive” but said that he had a free speech right to wear it, according to The Associated Press.

“It’s just awful that he wore that shirt that day,” the A.P. quoted Mr. Brennwald as saying. “I just don’t think it’s appropriate to give him extra time because of that because he’s allowed to wear it,” he said.

Four years for this fascist liar:

NBC News: Nazi sympathizer and Army reservist who stormed the Capitol sentenced to 4 years in Jan. 6 case.

The judge called his claim that he did not know that Congress was meeting there a "risible lie." Perfect summary.

Which supports my opinion that not all military people are worthy of adulation. Reminds me of some here wh lean on their military service.

I'm strongly against war, and disgusted by the pervasive US militarization of films, TV shows, police, and life in general.

Still, I have quite a few friends who served in the military (and some who died as a result). Their politics vary and we mostly avoid arguments.

That said, I really despise people who claim falsely to have served, or claim combat experience when they had none. It seems to be pretty common on the right.

J.R. Majewski, a G.O.P. House candidate, says he served in Afghanistan. The Air Force has no record of it.

J.R. Majewski, a Republican House candidate in northern Ohio, has frequently promoted himself as a combat veteran who served in Afghanistan after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, but the U.S. Air Force has no record that he served there, unraveling a central narrative of his political ascension that has been heralded by former President Donald J. Trump.

Mr. Majewski, 42, was deployed for six months in 2002 to Qatar, the Persian Gulf nation that is now home to the largest U.S. air base in the Middle East, according to Air Force records obtained by The New York Times.

The Associated Press reported earlier about Mr. Majewski’s misrepresentations of his military service, noting that he worked as a “passenger operations specialist” while he was in Qatar, helping to load and unload planes. In addition to Air Force records, it used information that it had obtained through a public records request from the National Archives but that was not immediately available on Thursday.

Melissa Pelletier, a campaign spokeswoman for Mr. Majewski, did not respond to multiple requests for comment. In a statement to The A.P., Mr. Majewski did not directly address the inconsistencies, saying that his accomplishments were under attack. “I am proud to have served my country,” Mr. Majewski said in the statement.

The inconsistencies in Mr. Majewski’s public accounts of his military service brought renewed scrutiny to a candidate who had already been facing questions about his presence at the U.S. Capitol on the day of the Jan. 6 siege and sympathies for the QAnon conspiracy movement.

    Wow!!

"Denver Riggleman, former senior tech advisor for the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol, said that the White House switchboard connected a call to a rioter’s phone while the Capitol was under siege on January 6, 2021.

"You get a real 'a-ha' moment when you see that the White House switchboard had connected to a rioter's phone while it's happening," Riggleman told 60 Minutes correspondent Bill Whitaker. "That's a big, pretty big 'a-ha' moment."

Riggleman, an ex-military intelligence officer and former Republican congressman from Virginia, oversaw a data-driven operation for the January 6 committee, pursuing phone records and other digital clues tied to the attack on the Capitol. He stopped working for the committee in April."

The defense attorney tried to portray the accused as a victim, which seems to be a pretty common dodge these days.

QAnon follower who chased officer on January 6 convicted of felonies

Douglas Jensen could face more than 50 years in prison after federal jury found him guilty

    Ramon Antonio Vargas
    Sun 25 Sep 2022

A QAnon conspiracy theorist who led a pack of Donald Trump supporters that chased a solitary police officer around the US Capitol on the day of the January 6 attack has been found guilty of several felonies.

Douglas Jensen – the bearded 43-year-old Iowa man who appeared in several media photos of the attack while wearing a black T-shirt with a large “Q” – could in theory face more than 50 years in prison after a federal jury in Washington DC convicted him on Friday, US justice department prosecutors said in a statement.

However, it is rare for convicts in US district court to receive the harshest available punishment, even if they chose to stand trial rather than plead guilty in advance. And the harshest sentence handed out so far to anyone found guilty of having a role in the deadly Capitol attack has been 10 years.

Prosecutors alleged that Jensen formed part of the mob of Trump supporters who gathered at the Capitol on the day in early 2021 that Congress was meeting to certify Joe Biden’s victory over Trump in the previous year’s presidential election.

Clad in a navy blue knit cap and the T-shirt paying homage to QAnon, the conspiracy myth that Trump is locked in secret combat against a cabal of leftist pedophiles and its deep state allies, Jensen scaled a wall at the Capitol, watched as fellow mob members broke the Senate wing entrance’s windows and doors, and was among the first 10 people to invade the facility, according to prosecutors.

Jensen went around a few corners and joined a crowd that encountered a lone Capitol police officer near a stairwell, prosecutors said. Jensen squeezed his way to the front of the group, essentially came face to face with the officer, Eugene Goodman, and helped chase him up the stairs to a hallway just outside the Senate chamber.

Prosecutors said that Jensen – carrying a knife with a three-inch blade in his pocket – barked at Goodman as well as other officers to “back up” and ordered them to arrest Trump’s vice-president, Mike Pence, whom the mob was threatening to hang if he didn’t halt the certification of Biden’s electoral college win.

After 40 minutes, Jensen was made to exit, briefly re-entered another section of the Capitol and was forced out again, prosecutors said.

Authorities arrested him two days later, after he returned to Iowa.

At Jensen’s trial, concluding Friday, his defense attorney portrayed him as “a terribly confused man” whose mind was even more twisted by QAnon as well as Covid lockdowns. Jensen’s attorney also claimed his client had never physically hurt anyone during his time at the Capitol.

But jurors needed just four hours to convict Jensen as charged of assaulting police, obstructing a congressional proceeding, interfering with law enforcement, entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct with a dangerous weapon, which are all felonies.

And for all those who argue that knives are as deadly as guns, this guy was packing. So he came prepared to maim or kill (since the knives weren't likely for skinning his dinner).

    The sentence will be interesting.
