Default INK REVIEW IN BRIEF: Diamine 2021 Inkvent -Raspberry Rose

INK REVIEW IN BRIEF: DIAMINE 2021 INKVENT RED EDITION:
    RASPBERRY ROSE

In 2019, Diamine made strategic marketing move by offering the first of its kind Inkvent Calendar for the holiday season. It was extremely popular and sold out quickly. But later, they introduced each 2019 Inkvent inks as the Blue Edition in a new and beautifully shaped glass bottle to be marketed on a regular basis. Again, the response was overwhelming. Very likely because of the Covid pandemic, the Inkvent Calendar was not introduced for the 2020 holiday season. But in late September of 2021, Diamine announced the 2021 Inkvent Calendar Red Edition. This Inkvent Calendar included slightly larger bottles for the first 24 days and a regular sized 30 ml bottle for the Day 25 ink. In addition, Diamine produced more 2021 Calendars, which are still obtainable at some pen stores.

There have been numerous introductions of the 2021 inks shown across the internet - myself included here on fpgeeks - including many YouTube videos. The intent with this Review in Brief is to perhaps give the reader a bit more information about one of the inks that I particularly liked from the Calendar.

    Raspberry Red Rev 1.jpg

Diamine’s Raspberry Rose is classified as a Standard ink. It was presented as the Day 8 ink and it likely is very near in color to other Diamine inks. It does remind me of a true raspberry color – a warm red with undertones of pink to it. There is no shimmer or sheen to the ink. It is nicely behaved, with no hard starts. The ink itself is not lubricated, and is moderately wet. But it flows quite nicely.

The pen used for the brief review is a limited edition Lamy Studio Wild Rubine with a 14k medium nib. I also wrote with this ink in an extra fine Pilot Prera, which is not shown in this review. The ink performed the same in both pens. And the paper that I chose for this review is Rhodia 80 gsm paper. If you wish to see how the ink looks on Tomoe River or Fabriano Ecoqua paper, please refer to my Musings thread (https://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread...kvent-Calendar).
Also, all images were taken under LED light with a Nikon Z50 mirrorless camera with a Nikon DX 16-50 3.5-6.3 lens, then cropped and Ai processed using Luminar.

In conclusion, this is a lovely ink. I used it for editing and illustration, and it performed perfectly in both situations.

I thought of it as somewhat lighter than a full bodied burgundy. Maybe a beaujolais nouveau?

Well, personally, it reminds me of a Pinot Noir from Amador County,CA - fruit forward, but lighter in ruby tone, but with an undercurrent of nuanced rose. I haven't tasted the ink to see if lives up to a good California Pinot - somehow I doubt it.

My OH might agree with that LOL. I'm no fan of beaujolais nouveau though. Never have been.

Not sure if you can get a Californian red called Apothic but that's my current favourite red. Definitely fruit forward! It's really delicious and quite moreish in case you've never tried it. Comes highly recommended from a Brit.

There are several Apothic red blends available now. They are quite popular, and remarkably good for the price. Don't get me started on wine. That is another "hobby" that I can't afford to indulge in too much.

I apologize for this question but I didn't have the financial interest in the Inkvent thing and so never followed closely: are these inks now, or soon to be, available as a separate purchase indiviaually?

Jon-- Diamine releases these inks a few months later as individual 50ml bottles. Last years Inkvent Calendar for 2020 was called the Blue Edition and the 50ml bottles were released later and were called "Diamine Blue Edition" followed by the name of the ink. Here is a link that shows one of the bottles from last year that is available from Vanness:

Thank you for the great question. Many people have asked the same.

As junglejim indicated, following the 2019 Inkvent Calendar, Diamine sold them inks in larger, nicer bottles as the Blue Edition. I am sure there are some who are hoping/expecting that Diamine will do the same with the Red Edition (2021 Inkvent inks).

The 2021 Inkvent calendar is still available for a number of suppliers. Here in the US Vanness Pens and Shigure still have some. I believe Cult Pens in the UK and perhaps Appelboom in EU still have some. I am not sure of others.

    All the Best.
The Blue Edition Inkvent Calendar was released in December 2019 (2020 is merely a typo as there wasn't one then due to Covid.) Then during March 2020 Diamine released all of those 25 new inks in 50ml bottles. It is expected that Diamine will be releasing the Red Edition Inkvent inks in the same 50ml bottles as they released the Blue Edition inks.
