Default Ink Review: Sailor Shikiori Rikyucha

Today I’m reviewing Sailor Shikiori Rikyucha ink. It’s colour is between a dark olive green and a brown. I found it quite wet with very good flow. Lubrication on the nib was very smooth across the paper.

Rikyucha didn’t suffer from any hard starts or non-starts when I put the uncapped pen down to do swab tests, dry times and water resistance. The ink was very well-behaved.
It dried fairly quickly in 16 seconds on the Clairefontaine Triomphe paper and didn’t smear after it was dry.

Some red sheen can occasionally be seen in large enough swabs on very smooth paper but it’s not particularly known as a sheening ink.

Available in 20ml Sailor glass bottles from The Writing Desk. Thanks to them for sending me a sample to review.

    • Flow Rate: Very good. Wet.
    • Lubrication: Very smooth.
    • Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
    • Start-up: Immediate.
    • Saturation: Fairly saturated
    • Shading Potential: Sometimes seen.
    • Show-Through: Some seen on cheaper papers.
    • Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: None seen.
    • Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not seen, even after several days in the pen.
    • Staining (pen): Not seen after 2 weeks - easy clean-up.
    • Staining (hands): Washed off of my hands easily.
    • Clogging: Not seen.
    • Water resistance: Not sold as waterproof, but shows some blue water resistance.

You're welcome. I was surprised at how the colour varies on some of my additional papers

You're welcome. I only have samples of some. That was my very last drop of Cigar and I will never get another sample or bottle.

    Great review as usual, Chrissy.

This is the only Sailor Jentle that I have a bottle of.
Love the color, and the name.

You're welcome. I also have one of the 50ml bottles of Jentle Rickyucha but when comparing chroma tests between them the Shikiori is certainly different.

    Wait.

I didn't realize that there are two different Sailor inks named "Rikyu-Cha".

Sorry I missed this reply until today. The only difference is that the current version is now called Shikiori Rikyucha. When I compare this new sample with my old 50ml bottle of Jentle Rikyucha I noticed that the chroma tests are quite different.

I adore this ink, but have the older version of it. I wish they would bring back Cigar, love that one as well!

At the time I did chroma tests of both inks and they were identical.
