    Default Australian pen repair places

Could some of the Australian members please recommend some repair places down under. I have several pens that I might consider sending away. Any guidance would be welcome.

    Thanks

    Hi chamindra

I don't have any personal experience with any of them, but you might try:

Post office pens in Melbourne also do repairs, though I have not used them. You can ask at the pen shoppe if you have one near you, they adjust nibs in Brisbane.

Hi Chamindra. I have just sent a Sheaffer Imperial VIII to Jack for a nib repair and tune. I am not expecting it back for a few weeks but will write a review on its return.

Thanks Rick, I'll look for your review and also let everyone know how each place responds. This could be a useful thread for the Aussies in the forum

I haven't used Jack's services, but he's a nice guy, and I know that he does have a number of return customers who are happy with the work he's done. He's always responded promptly to any messages I've sent him on FPN as well.

It could indeed. (Also bringing the Aussies out!)

This is a good thread. I'm going to send some emails and see if I can get some nibs stubbed. The postage to the US and back is a killer.

    Hi fellow Aussies.
Here's some 'before photos' of the patient. Not very good quality but Jack was able to make an initial diagnosis!
Pen is scratchy and nib is catching as I move it in one direction. Pretty sure nib tines are misaligned but will wait to see what Jack has to say.
PS: You can't tell from the photos but the pen is burgundy and is a cartridge/converter filler.

Hey guys just to give you and update, I have sent out emails to Jack from AussiePenRepairs, Old Post Office Pens and Melbourne Vintage Pens.

Jack was very quick to respond and mentioned that he mainly handles nib work (smoothing, flow adjustment, alignment, regrinding) - I was looking for a Snorkel Repair and an adjustement and cap restoration on a 51 Aero. Jack also recommended Greg Minuskin for my particular request. Overall very professional and very quick to respond.

Andrew from Old Post Office Pens also responded quickly outlining cost of the repairs i requested

$70 for a new sac and seals for the Snorkel
$40 for clean, test and nib adjustment on the 51 Aero.

he aslo mentioned that their current repair queue is approx 3 weeks.

I emailed Melbourne Vintage pens today and will post their response as i receive it.

    Hi Aussies,

Got my pan back from Jack at Aussie Pen Repair yesterday. Very fast service!

Jack determined that the pen has been dropped in its past and one tine has been bent. This type of inlaid nib can't be removed so Jack couldn't do a nib burnish to fully correct the damage. Nevertheless he was able to fix the misalignment and regrind the nib back to the original extra fine. The pen writes beautifully although being an extra fine still has some scratchiness unless I hold the pen perfectly.

Overall the pen is now perfectly usable and will be my daily crossword pen where the extra fine will be just what is needed to write on newspaper. Remember that the pen, to me, was unusable in its previous state and was just sitting in a desk drawer - so Jack has brought my pen back to life.

I thoroughly recommend Jack for his fantastic service, feedback, technical skills and price.

    I'll post some photos soon.

    Rick
