Default Ink Review: Sailor Shikiori Yonaga

Today I’m reviewing Sailor Shikiori Yonaga ink. It’s a dark blue ink that leans very slightly towards green. I found it quite wet with good flow. Lubrication on the nib was smooth across the paper with hardly any feedback from the Lamy steel nibs.

Yonaga didn’t suffer from any hard starts or non-starts when I put the uncapped pen down to do swab tests, dry times and water resistance. The ink was well-behaved.
It dried in 20 seconds on the Clairefontaine Triomphe paper and didn’t smear after it was dry.

There is some potential for green or purple sheen if you lay down enough ink on smooth paper.

Available in 20ml Sailor glass bottles from The Writing Desk and several other retailers worldwide. Thanks to TWD for sending me a sample to review.

    • Flow Rate: Good. Quite wet.
    • Lubrication: Smooth.
    • Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
    • Start-up: Immediate.
    • Saturation: Saturated
    • Shading Potential: Some shading seen.
    • Show-Through: Some seen on several alternate papers.
    • Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: None seen.
    • Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not seen, even after several days in the pen.
    • Staining (pen): Not seen after over 2 weeks - easy clean-up.
    • Staining (hands): Washed off of my hands easily.
    • Clogging: Not seen.
    • Water resistance: Not sold as waterproof, but shows some blue water resistance.
