I don't seem to see a lot of entries marked SOLD.
Is it just me or is this not the best place for selling pens?

I’ve bought and sold here many times.

Same here, I have bought a lot of items on this forum.
Well you certainly can't sell at FPN. Their Classifieds have been out of Service for a Year and last I read Wim said the new format conflicts with the Old "For Sale" software program. He is working on that but it is a low priority compared with keeping the FPN site online.
I have a sneaky feeling a lot of Sellers here don't know or don't want to be bothered with marking their Classifieds as "Sold".

Good to know. I have a lot of pens to sell and I used to use FPN.

Scroll down some and you will see many sold items. I've sold a few things here.
At the same time, I have noticed that higher end pens move slower than others. Everybody wants to see rock-bottom prices for expensive pens. I've had a brand new US$850 pen for sale for $450 for a while now, and people still PM me to ask if I would "be willing to take $200 for it". Umm, no.
You will not find a more passionate group of hobbyists anywhere. People here love their fountain pens, including me. And I have purchased many a pen here. Between Dromgoole’s, Peyton Street Pens, and here I rarely have to venture into the unknown of the bay.
Passion, however, also means that people want to give their pens good homes. They also know the correct value for what they have. I’d rather support my peers in this hobby rather than an unknown looking to make a dollar.
Thanks!

I have bought 2 pens on here in the past month. Both transactions have been smooth as silk, and even made two friends in the process!
There has been a moderate influx of low-post sellers asking market prices, and folks that only post for sale stuff; "moderate" relative to this small and not-busy forum. I suspect some of it is FPN's classifieds being broken, but whatever... I don't really care. I seem to remember a more communal rather than commercial "for sale" section a few years ago.
Small gripe aside, I've bought and sold here. No worries.

bought, sold and change traded here sucessfully.
I clearly prefer this place to FPN, even when the classifieds were in order

I've bought a few pens here, always a good experience. And annoyingly, because of the time lag, a lot of the times I see a SOLD label on a pen, it's disappeared in the night before I saw it - and is on my little list. Grrrrr, one of the problems of being European.
I have bought and sold many times here without any issues. But that's been a while ago, my last post didn't attract any buyers. I'm not sure if it's due to items not being interesting enough or if there's fewer people here; I sold almost everything on reddit almost immediately however. Subreddit pen_swap.

I'm a long timer on FPN so it's good to know that there is more activity than I thought on FPG, both sales and non sales related

I have purchased some of my best and favorite pens here. And sold a couple. All with no issues.
This is a great place to transact "pointed" business. Just do your due diligence and things will work well.

Yep. Bought and sold successfully on here for years (though I haven’t sold anything in a while now). This truly is one of the nicer groups of hobbyists out there on the interwebz. Sometimes folks can get a wee bit snarky in comments, but for the most part everyone’s congenial. Had to sell several pens a few years back to pay for my mother’s funeral, and I can’t say I was surprised at the kind words and support from the members on this forum— managed to sell enough to take care of the costs.
But I would agree that social media (reddit, instagram, facebook) has changed the landscape of traditional online sales/swap forums such as this one.
