Eversharp pen

Hi All, I just joined the group and could use some help. I just found this old Eversharp fountain pen and would like more information on it. I believe it is from the 1930's but am not sure. I was told by a friend that the pen might have some value. It has an adjustable nib.

Any help would be appreciated. I might offer it for sale just not sure what I have yet.

Definitely a Eversharp Doric model and they are quite collectable so it is valuable. I don't yet own a Doric (because I usually can't afford the price tag they sell for)so I don't have any information other than a name for your pen. I hope to own one at some point. I am sure others here know more about it. Good luck if you decide to sell.

That is an Eversharp Doric indeed. See here: http://www.richardspens.com/ref/profiles/doric.htm
The colour might be Garnet Red. The wide cap band, as seen on your pen, was introduced in mid 1935 and is typical for the second generation Doric which was in the Eversharp catalog until circa 1941. Some Doric pens had an ink shut-off valve at the feed. The valve closes when the cap is screwed onto the pen, preventing ink leakage in case of pressure or temperature changes.

Very nice thanks for the links!! I really like the pencils.

I think my pen is more brown in color. I am not sure if or how to clean it. Another thing I collect is old knives and most collectors don't want things cleaned?

Yes, it can be difficult to identify the exact colour of a Doric, your pen might also be Lavender Pearl.
Check the first picture on this webpage for more Doric colours: it shows the Garnet Red against the Lavender Pearl (the two horizontal pens on the bottom of the tray):

This lovely pen is a later Doric and is a plunger-filler, not a project for beginners or even advanced restorers who lack plunger experience. I suggest you send it to Gerry Berg or Ron Zorn. Ask them for time estimate. PM me for contact info.

Cleaning the cap and barrel is not a problem and will bring out the attractive colour scheme of these pens but I would be careful with the nib. As noted above the adjustable nib is very valuable and some parts of the slider (eg the tabs that connect the slider to the nib) are very fragile and break easily.
