    Default Bible Fountain Pen?

I'm new enough to fountain pens that I don't yet know if this is a stupid question. I was wondering if there are any fountain pens that are specifically made to overcome bleedthrough so as to be able to write on very thin paper such as that used in most bibles. This may be just as much an ink question but I thought I'd start here. I have used Pigma Micron 005 pens and that's about the ideal non-fountain pen for the job.

    Thanks!

I read the title and thought you meant a pen with decorations based on the Bible, lol. I've seen those. Expensive! Like fifteen thousand!

As for your REAL question...It really is a factor of nib size and ink. I would imagine a fine fine fine nib and dryish ink might work. Usually book papers are not very receptive to fountain pens and their inks.

    Good luck.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

Yes, extra fine nib and a good dry ink. But even that may not be enough. I use only fine leaded mechanical pencils in mine, fountain pens just aren't ideal for this. (Feathering, bleed through, show through)

Perhaps the Sailor Saibi Togi, or the Platinum ultra extra fine.

I don't imagine you're going to find a suitable fountain pen for this purpose.

I use fountain pens to mark up my bible. I use a variety of pens, with either a fine or extra fine nib. Mark ups include underlining verses and margin notes. I have a wide-margin bible that has slightly thicker paper than a normal compact bible. Lighter inks tend to have less show through. I love turning to a page and seeing a passage marked up in multiple colors. Does it sometime smear? yep. I carry a piece of blotting paper for that purpose, but don't always use it. I love my bible and the character it has developed over time!

I have used Ex Fine with Fast dry ink with great success for thin paper like you will find in a KJV bible. I also remember my grandfather a minister carrying small blotter with him as well.

I haven't tried it myself yet, but when this same question came up in a thread on FPN, someone said that he/she uses a Vanishing Point ground to an XXF with X Feather ink.

Use the finest nib possible, and try Pelikan Inks, which run dry. I confess, I use colored pencils (the Crayola twistup kind) for marking in mine. I never found a suitable combo that wouldn't bleedthrough to the other side of the paper.

Very fine nib and an iron gall ink might work. Something like a Platinum Carbon Pen or Pilot Penmanship filled with Rohrer und Kligner's Salix or Montblanc Midnight Blue. I'm pretty confident that bleedthrough wouldn't be a problem, but showthrough is another matter.

Yep, that's a bit high... I prefer my bible not only be worth more, but cost more than the pen I am using to write in it. I know it's not a serious suggestion but man, I just can't ever see paying more for a pen then some cars I have owned.

I first saw these Viscontis in a catalogue and thought they were gorgeous (there is an OT model as well, with silver trim, and in black and white).

And then I saw the price tag.

    Well, who pays retail?

But seriously, I've seen them in person. Let me hastily say that this is not my type of pen at all. But they are strikingly beautiful; the detail and workmanship is amazing.
