Does The Remake Of 51 Plum Make '48 To '49 Plum Less Valuable?

I was wondering if the Parker remake of the 51 in plum color has devalued the vintage 1948 to 1949 plum 51? The only sale of a vintage plum on ebay was for a set of fountain and pencil that sold for about $168 US. So, since the remake of the 51 plum can be bought, is the vintage item less desirable now?

Nooooo. No more than the remake of the Conklin crescent and the Esterbrook J. Given the quality of the new versions, they make me appreciate and want the originals even more.

Not in the least. The originals will always stand up to, and hold their value against, any reproduction.

Thanks for the responses. Market prices for collectible items have gone up and down since the last time I bought anything. In some of these markets new stuff does seem to devalus old. Nice to know it doesn't happen with pens.
