Walnut 'Bamboo' Style FP with a Thin CA Finish
Hi folks,
Here is another of my 'Bamboo' style pens, in walnut.
This is not the first walnut 'Bamboo' I have done (have done quite a few by now) but it is the first one that I have done using thin/low viscosity CA as a penetrating/sealing finish. I often use 8 - 10 layers of medium visc to build up a thick coat, and then polish it to a nice glassy finish, but while that does give the wood a 'jewel-like' quality, it does rob the wood of the nice tactile properties the wood itself has to offer. So, in some of my wood pens, I have been using 2 or 3 coats of low viscosity CA as a penetrating/sealing finish, inside and out, which not only protects the wood nicely, but can be polished to a decent sheen. Better still, the wood retains its nice feel.
Thanks for looking,
Ken

I like the look and sound of this pen. Nice work! Reminds me of the beautiful finish on Warwick electric basses. Requires regular oiling though. I need to get on your waiting list one of these days

Doctor Goretex: Nice turning job. I like your use of a professional section and nib. A few years ago I tried my hand at turning a pen using one of the kits made for home made pens. The section and nib were dumpy with a screw on cap using brass. Looked and wrote OK. Yours looks a lot more professional--as in you had to make it yourself or use a much better kit.
I had to go to a zoom meeting as I was finishing my post and did not have a chance to say great job on matching the grain/figure on the barrel and cap. That move elevated the quality big time. (picture 3)

That's nice. Also I like the fact that it's 'bamboo but in walnut' :-)
