Default Mont Blanc fountain pens - Paper dependence of writing quality

Hello everyone, Hope you are all doing fine.

I have just acquired a Mont Blanc 145 Meisterstuck Platinum, and it is now the most expensive pen I have.

Upon bringing it home and testing, I have noticed a strange feature. It writes beautifully on certain papers, while quite badly on others.

I am assuming this has to do with the quality of the paper, but I haven't seen so much paper-dependent variation on any other pen.

Have any of you had the same experience?

I have checked the nib of the pen under a magnifier and it looks all right. No misaligned tynes or any defects that I can see.

    Thanks

P.S: I am using Mont Blanc's own branded ink that I bought form the same showroom.

Check for baby's bottom on a new nib.

Thanks Fred. I've looked at the nib and it seems ok. I'll send a picture soon.

When it writes badly, how does it misbehave?

It writes very rough, and the writing is very thin. Something like what one sees when the pen is about to run out of ink.

To be blunt, I would not mess around.

If this is a new pen then I would take it back, describe the problem to them and ask that they sort it out or give you your money back.

    Bonjour gnat9,

I had an almost identical issue a bold nib on a MB 145. Montblanc USA replaced the entire front assembly of the nib, and it was fine after that.

Keep the writing samples and bring them to the store when you take it back.

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

I'll send it back and ask MontBlanc to put in a new nib.
