Default When refilling a plunger-filler from a 5ml ink vial...

...wrap a paper towel around the pen and top of the vial before pressing the plunger home, especially when dealing with highly saturated ink.

No photo available, but use your imagination. Luckily, I keep Reduran and Amodex handy.

Is it anything like the exhalation of a very large whale?

I just saw your signature line junglejim. That is a very sad loss and he will be missed. He was only 72 years old.

Well, I admit I knew better. My usual method with almost-empty vials is to choose a Pelikan piston-filler, unscrew its nib unit and pour the vial's last contents into the barrel. But I hadn't used the Valiant in a long time and wanted to give it a go.
