Default Darn it. What a complete blunder.

If anyone still remembers "junglejim's" Mystery Inks #42, 43, and 44 then he included as #44 the most lovely yellow ink KWZ El Dorado. I thought it a great yellow and loved the vanilla smell that I was unaware happens to be a feature of KWZ inks.

I was so taken with it I tipped it into my transparent Moonman C2 that has a M nib. For the uninitiated these Moonman pens are eye dropper fillers and even come with their own dropper. However, filling one from a sample vial is very easy and I often use my sample vials for this purpose as I have two Moonman C2 pens

Stupidly I replaced this pen cap down into my pen pot and the next time I came to write a letter with it (yesterday) there was some ink inside the cap. Now I know you are all miles ahead of me here but I will press on. I removed the cap and the barrel and tipped the ink from the cap into the barrel. However then I decided to rinse out the remaining ink stain from the cap. Yep. Like a complete idiot, as I was replacing the section into the barrel I tipped the barrel a bit too far and my beautiful yellow ink came out all over my desk blotter. I was so angry with myself as I cleaned up, and even worse, I only have a little bit left in my pen. Boo Hoo.

Lesson Learned. Next time I will be much more careful. Please take this as a warning to be extra careful with eye dropper filler pens.

At least it wasn't single malt that spilled.

Years ago I took a piece of hard foam that was sitting in my workshop and bored a couple of 3/4" holes about 1-2" deep. I set that on my desk and set the barrel of an ED, or a converter, that I am going to fill with a syringe. Partly to keep from tipping over, partly to have both hands free to make certain I get the ink right in the target. Not to say I haven't dropped a drop or two of ink here or there, but for the most part it has really helped. No shame in having an inking-up rig, Chrissy!

So sorry to hear about this Chrissy. This sounds like something I would do, which is why I probably don't have any eye-dropper fillers.

I would say that I might have preferred to spill whisky LOL. Neither of us drink it.

Oh and Jon it was a letter to you that I was writing when I spilled it.

I agree that I usually have pots, jars and candle holders for filling converters or pens from bottles, but I didn't have anything in the dining room where I was writing. Another lesson learned right there.

Sorry to hear. As you know, I am a big fan of El Dorado. Well into my second bottle....

Can you turn turn your blotter into art, a la Jackson Pollock?

M: I came here for a good argument.
A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument.
M: An argument isn't just contradiction.
    A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
    A: No it isn't.
M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction.
A: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'No it isn't.'
    A: Yes it is!
    M: No it isn't!

I had not remembered that at the time, but it's a great recommendation. Thank you. I agree that it's a really good yellow/gold shade. Not too light to read as writing and not too darkly golden that it starts to look a bit "dirty" somehow. The smell is also a big bonus.

Because I know I'm clumsy my large desk blotter already has it's piece of blotting paper looking like a Jackson Pollock. As additional protection for it I have several pieces of kitchen roll, inserted into the "leather corners", that actually protect the blotting paper, as I don't know where to get a large enough (A3?) replacement sheet from. To hold the kitchen roll I also have smaller oblong pieces of blotting paper in the corners. Fortunately for the blotter, I tipped the golden ink mainly onto one of my smaller pieces of blotter and onto some of the kitchen roll. The piece of blotter paper was already fairly well speckled with ink drops but now has a large circular bloom of gold along one side. Fortunately not much got through to the large piece of blotter paper or onto the "leather" corner but what did was wiped off immediately.
