A friend of mine has brewed his own iron gall ink. I'm testing it...
...quite cool. Don't you think?
Looks great!

Really nice one @christof. Is it for fountain pen or dip pen?
christof (October 9th, 2024)
I use it in my Aurora 88 and a Pentel Brush Pen. No problems so far.

I changed the pen and am using the same ink in a Pelikan 100N for the moment. Works quite well.
What I really like about this ink is, that it becomes nearly waterproof on the paper during seconds only. So I can sketch with brush pen and fountain pen almost at the same time. It is not necessary to wait until the chemical reaction of the ink has finished. This effect is clearly different to Bergmanns "blaufliessende Eisengallustinte" and in my eyes an advantage.
I like the fact that you can create such shades with just one ink and in a very short time.
For example this sketch was made with "blaufliessende Eisengallustinte" and you can see, that the lines are quite washed.
And while I was drawing, my friend continued to work in the lab and I have already received the further development of the ink, which I am allowed to test for him...
I will keep you up to date.

@christof, thanks for sharing the evolution and characteristics of this new IG ink. I have to admit I like them both. The 2nd card with Büroservice, while the lines are washed, it gives a lot of character, ambiance to the landscape.
Got new notebooks!
...manufactured by a friend of mine which is graphic designer.
Paper is Lessebo Ivory 90g/m2 by swiss paper manufacture Fischer, St. Gallen.

the daily use of a fountain pen...
..is becoming less and less. digitalization is efficient, but I don't really enjoy it!
So christof, are you getting the Harry Potter, Lamys?

Beautiful ink and very nice work.
I have a question here Chris. Regarding this ink as it is Iron Gall and it is VERY ACIDIC. I know that ink will corrode many steel nibs and perhaps that can cause some damage to the old antique or vintage ( as you categorised ) Pens with bladder. What is your take on some some classic Iron gall inks and on this ink? Is this ink has a different composition than other known makes?
This ink is not safe for any dip pens. I mean knowing an iron gal is very harmful and it is going to shorten any performance shorter on nibs.
Franky I avoid using very expensive or vintage rare dream nibs on Iron gall. Instede I use them on less acidic ink and always use a cheaper nib with iron gall.
In my ink collection ,I have several Iconic Iron galls and they are reserved for Less worrying freely available nibs.
I use mostly Walnut ink for my Dip pens. And I am aware even the Walnut inks have a certain corrosiveness than some other soft inks. But use of iron gall inks are very effective , bautiful and greater in permanency of any work. So as this ink it looks amazing.

Thank you for your comments. Well, my thoughts on this are as follows.
I am testing this ink for a friend of mine. If there was no risk, there would be no reason for testing.
But my friend is a chemist. He has designed this ink with the aim of producing a safe iron gall ink suitable for fountain pens. (Iron gall inks for dip pens are something completely different, you can't compare.) As I am not a chemist, I have no choice but to trust him. So far, no problems have arisen.
I mainly use these inks in old fountain pens. The reason for this is that these fountain pens very probably came into contact with iron gall ink decades ago - and have survived. The Pelikan 100N, for example, has no metal parts except for the gold nib. The same applies to the Aurora 88, at least as far as the innards are concerned. But I have not yet used this ink in a fountain pen with an ink sac.
As a bonus, these fountain pens have an excellent ink flow that harmonises perfectly with these iron gall inks. And of course I monitor my pens periodically and clean them thoroughly from time to time.
