If you guys are looking for an unicorn purple ink, try finding ST Dupont Violet. Impossible to find since it's been discontinued for at least 10 years if not 15 years.

It’s one of my favourite purple inks. I had one treasured bottle that I had nearly used up. Then on a trip to France a few years ago I wandered into a tiny old-fashioned newsagent shop in the Val de Loire and there on the shelves at the back of the shop were five dusty boxed bottles of S T DuPont Violette. I bought all 5 for €6 each. Sometimes the fickle finger of Fate points in your direction 🙂

Does it sheen like Dark Lilac? I can't quite tell from the photo post. If it does, then...well...Guess I'm sold!

It gets its sheen from the Yama-budo component, so if you’re familiar with that ink you’ll know how the sheen manifests itself..

Not to threadjack much, but I really am thinking of becoming a reddit member. The fountain pen forum seems intriguing. Any tips on what to avoid, etc.?
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

And my latest ebook, for spooky wintery reading:

That's an awesome find for $6 each bottle. I had to pay the big price. $25 a bottle last year but it's ok since I love the ink. I am just happy that I found 6 bottles.

As for sheen, it sheens a lot. Especially on Midori paper.

I like Dark Lilac, but came to the party late and so had to buy cartridges and syringe out the liquid. I tried the recipe with Yama Budo but for me it dried to an uglier purple color. But maybe I'm a bad cook.

I'd like to try Diamine Pansy, because that look like a good dupe.

Interesting. I got a couple bottles of this ink back when it was new. Tried it, didn't much care for it. I should probably dig them out and sell them to someone who likes the stuff.

Keep meaning to try and find a bottle of this, as I know it's one of those legendary inks and I missed it....I had some carts at one point but never used one of them.

I've no idea how much a bottle is worth. Maybe I ought to consider listing mine on ebay? On the other hand auctions are a bit scary as interest only seems to happen right at the end.

Not sure why, but the Lamy looks markedly better. Hue is pretty close, but I see better, cleaner coverage with the Lamy. Not enough of a difference for a price premium, but then I really don't use colored inks.

Maybe 🤔. that was a pretty amateur sort of test.….and 'proper' ink tester / reviewers that do 9 other types of test might even find more basic differences…
but to your average shmuck like me …..purple is purple …give or take.

Actually, I do have a few 'purples' and some are quite nice ……Diamine's Imperial Purple. Bungubox L'amant
And one I really like…Iroshizuku Murasaki- shikibu.
