Default Is anyone still interested in Lamy Dark Lilac Ink?

I'm curious if anyone is still interested in Dark Lilac. It's my favorite ink. A few years ago I stocked up and it's the only ink I use. I'm curious because yesterday I listed a bottle on eBay and no one seems interested. The starting bid was .99 and that's the only bid I've received. Guess it's a fad that has run its course.

I have a bottle of it lying around somewhere. Really don't use it as I prefer bluer-leaning purples.

In case you missed it Reddit user migo984 posted a recipe for Faux Lamy Dark Lilac a couple of years ago. The mix is Iroshizuku Yama-budo + Shin-Kai. The ratio is 3:1. If the mix is slightly too red I will occasionally add a touch of Oster Blue Denim. The two colours are really very close IRL when seen side by side: the Faux Dark Lilac even has very similar amounts of gold sheen."

No. There are other purple inks I prefer to Dk. Lilac.

On a broader note, does anyone know why manufacturers do this? I mean, make an ink sold at regular ink prices that turns out to be super popular among their customers... and then just stop making it. Where is the logic here? Unless there is some difficulty in producing Dark Lilac Lamy could have gone on producing it as part of the regular line-up and it would no doubt have continued to be a best seller.

It's not something I would generally list on ebay auction with a 99p start. I would protect it with a Buy it Now price listing instead. However, the only bottle I can find on ebay worldwide either currently listed or completed or sold within the last 3 months is being sold at a totally ridiculous gouging price. Hopefully you removed your bottle before it ended.

Cartridges still sell well enough so maybe you just listed it at the wrong time. Maybe try selling it on here?

Hi…. I got sent a bottle of D.L when it first came out for free with some pen I bought, and quite liked it …….for $19 !
Then the market went nuts !!! and for ages bottles were on eBay for like $200. !!!! Then, I did some swatch tests , and honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference between DL and Diamine Pansy which cost knickers !! So I bought a few bottles of that and have been very happy , cos it’s a nice colour.
Lamy's 'Petrol' green black did the same, and bottles of that were selling for more than a sane person would pay…..and again, there were quite a few 'green-blacks' that were so close to it as to make no nevermind

It’s a strange world we live in.

You’d definitely get some takers if you listed it for sale at a ‘reasonable’ price on Pen_Swap on Reddit.

I agree with you. Neither of these two inks is particularly hard to replicate or to find similar replacements for that are close enough. I have some cartridges available in both colours and a bottle of Dark Lilac but I sold my Petrol because I didn't particularly need another bottle of ink that colour.

You waited only *one day* to draw the conclusion that no one was interested?

You can sell that bottle easily.

I overpaid for Lamy Petrol because I thought it would be my Forever dark green. I'm still trying to warm up to it, but it makes nice ink washes for drawing, and a great mixer with Diamine Silver Fox.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

Sailor…I really like 'Petrol' and when the prices went stratospheric I tried making it , with mixed success 🤣, then went on a hunt for as close to it as possible, and now have a shelf full of ….similar , but not close enough.
My best one was / is…Diamine - Dark forest. It only comes in small triangular bottles, but it’s cheap enough to have a few bottles in reserve 👍🏻👍🏻

Diamine Dark Forest is also the closest colour replica I've found for Lamy Petrol too. It has maybe a fraction more warmth to it. And I agree that Diamine Pansy is a good replacement for Dark Lilac.

Lamy Dark Lilac is nice everyday ink. I bought some bottles when it was available and it will last many years. Maybe many of the pen aficionados dis the same so there is not a big demand outside this group.

If you have Lamy Blue-Black or Diamine Prussian Blue they are the closest similar inks.
