    Default Sheaffer amethyst

Here’s another in the line of inks Sheaffer introduced after moving production from Slovenia to China and dropping the Skrip name. It comes in a tilt-well bottle that echoes an earlier style. I bought it mainly for the bottle.

    amethyst1.jpg

On first opening, the inner seal was stuck to the rim of the bottle. It wasn’t hard to secure it to the central post on the cap.

I once tried a bottle of Sheaffer Skrip black (the empty pictured above), probably US-made. Compared to (say) Quink ink, Skrip ‘writing fluid’ seemed artificial, the stationery equivalent of ‘cola drink’, not the Real Thing. Makes no sense, but there it is.

Based on online images, Sheaffer amethyst leans redder than Sheaffer Skrip purple. It’s also redder than J. Herbin violette pensée and bluer than Sailor okuyama (which is all sheen on Col-o-ring). I can rationalize that this ink fills a gap in my lineup, not that I needed to fill it.

Swatches on Col-o-ring and Atoma paper.

The Pelikan cartridge pen wrote drier than the Sheaffer vac-filler despite a broader nib.

    More Inktober doodles.

    Waterproofness: not so much.

This ink is dark enough for general writing and makes a nice change from blue-black or black.

Thank you for another excellent review and fun sketches, showing off your creative process.
It seems that Sheaffer is trying to get into the already saturated market of inks, (pun intended) but with no vision. You summed it well, "It's the stationery equivalent of ‘cola drink’, not the Real Thing..

Sheaffer Amethyst is a good ink to use for general writing needs and offers a nice change from traditional blue-black or black inks. The color leans redder than Sheaffer Skrip purple and is bluer than Sailor okuyama, which may be appealing to those looking for a unique shade. fnf

Yazeh, you might want to take your "Thank-You" back. The poster is a sneaky spammer. Move your cursor just to the right of their last sentence.

There are more spam replies on this thread than normal responses.
I wish someone who cared would buy FPGeeks and look after it like it deserves to be looked after. It is currently one massive task to get rid of all of these spammers and get the place back to near normal before it could be upgraded.

In an effort to redress the spam-to-content ratio, here's some comparative chromatography. Not much going on with J. Herbin violette pensée and Sheaffer amethyst, but Sailor okuyama is a revelation.

From top to bottom: J. Herbin violette pensée, Sheaffer amethyst, Sailor okuyama

Question, I have the standard Sheaffer violet. How does this compare? Is it the same ink in a different bottle or a different hue?

I would guess different but I don't have that ink to compare. Here's a comparison from Anderson Pens:

Thanks for the comparison - It definitely looks a little different. I like the Skript but this looks a little more subdued.
