There are some good YouTube reviews of the Jinhao 159 which appears to have better quality, a 8 nib and a more like MB 149 section.
The makers have dropped the heavyweight brass body and the shield-on-clip. $6 shipped
Anyone bought one so far?

I watched a couple reviews and have just ordered one to give it a try. When it arrives I will let you know what I think of it.
Note the important "x" in the x159 moniker. I picked one up a couple months ago. I did have to do just a small bit of adjustment to smooth the nib and adjust flow, and after that it is a perfectly acceptable writing instrument. MUCH better than the heavy pig of the previous version, and I only wish you could get a larger tip than "F". Still, at not much more than $10 it would be my go-to for a beater pen to throw in a bag going out... if I didn't already have a bunch of pens like that! Certainly worth the small price, just nothing that I would fall in love with.

I've got 4 of them. The pens are big (like MB149), lightweight, 2 write smooth out of the box (postal envelope...), the other 2 needed just a bit of flow adjustment. 2 pens filled with Parker Quink writes straight away, 2 other needs a half line to start, filled wit Diamine green and MB blue. 3 pens have metal thread out of section, while the black one have plastic.

@usk15, funny, my black one has a metal thread out section

I got one. Worked well right outta da box. In a fit of perhaps irony, I filled it with Montblanc Blue Hour.
My other pen is a Montblanc.
And my other blog is a tumblr!

BTW, re: dry-out. This pen wouldn't always start up, just the tip drying out, and it has improved around 80% after a fix. I slipped an o-ring down inside the barrel so that the end of the section compresses it against the edge of what would be an inner cap. Makes a better seal and now takes 2-3 days of non-use before I have to dip the tip in some water to get the ink to flow. If I use it more regularly, it is fine. Yeah, I also put some MB ink in it, just to see if lightning would strike me dead or something.

Thanks TSherbs, I never realized the X159 threads were plastic! Now that I know that they are not metal, I can eyedropper them. I own two and fins them to be excellent writers and good value for money.

The section threads on my black x159 are definitely metal

Folks which Jinhao cartridges does the x159 take? Size 2.6mm or 3.4mm?
Magnet sticks and the converter seats firmly. Looks like several versions.

Has anyone found other nibs which will fit the 159 and/or x159?
