    Default Inktober 2022

Here's the list of prompts and accompanying blurb:

September is the calm before the storm, the warm up before the marathon. During this month, take time to sketch out your ideas for every day’s prompt and prepare for Inktober 2022!

    I'm going to try ...

Hoping there will be some overlap between the two sets of prompts, as there was last year.

Looking at that list, I don't think I want to attempt all of them. But we'll see.

My son and I planning to participate again.
It’s already a kind of tradition for us since 2017.

And regarding the list, I have the impression that it gets stranger and stranger every year (as non native speaker I have to look up some words, which I never heard/used)

On the other side, it should not be too easy, so thinking about a weird prompt could also be seen kind of positive.

I'm not going to do all of them this year. I still lack the energy to commit to much, and don't want to make myself feel bad when I fail.

I also find some of them just too stupid. Why would I want to draw snot?

    That's what I thought too:

    boog·er | ˈbo͝oɡər |
    noun North American informal
1 a piece of dried nasal mucus: I watched as the man sat there picking boogers out of his nose.
2 another term for bogeyman: ghosts and boogers loomed around every corner.

I'm trying to find a underlying thread between the prompts. I would be fun to write a short story with these elements... and then sketch it out. Now if I could go find some extra time

In the past I saw several artists connecting the prompts to a kind of story.
    I always like such approaches.

Unfortunately I can’t find some right now.
I remember that I saw something like that at least 2-3 times on Deviant Art.

    Do you know Lethal Chris?
Really good artist with a YouTube channel.

In his Inktober drawings he periodically drew a figure with a red cape, no tight story connecting every prompt but loose.

    E.g. his 2021 ones

I think I will stick with the alternative meaning of bogeyman

I did think about that, but having spent the last 20 years as a parent trying to avoid this sort of negative imagery, I'm not going to embrace it now

I'd add that as a fan of dedicated private spaces incorporating hot and cold running water, I feel much the same about #28, but I could at least think of alternatives for that one!

I've thought of an interpretation of #23 that I'm willing to go with.

Having said that I didn't want to attempt all of them, I promptly began to persuade myself otherwise. I now have drawings for the first seven, and seven of the others; I've made notes of ideas for the seventeen remaining and will see what I can do. I'm using my smaller sketchbooks, and keeping it simple. But I've been in a bit of a rut, doing the same kind of subjects over and over, except for the weekly Inktober, and this is a chance to stir things up slightly.

Of course, it may not turn out that well, but that's always a risk.

I've got a pretty good start on the daily, although some are giving me trouble, and others I may want to do over. But here's #1.
