    Default Geha 708

Summary: Low cost German piston filler that writes well but is not readily disassembled for maintenance.

My latest cheap German piston filler to try is the Geha 708. The one I received appears to be new in the box, with not a mark on it and still the original Geha Königsblau ink in the barrel. The nib is a steel “EFK” (K = “kugel“ = ball) and is semi-hooded. The pen has a reserve tank and reserve tank button under the nib like the Geha Schulfüller. The pen is the standard black plastic cigar shape with gold colored trim and a blue ink window.

Unlike the school pen, this pen resisted all of my attempts to take it apart. The gold wash on the nib was originally intact, but there was pitting present on the nib. I wiped at some of the corrosion with a cotton cloth and the gold wash came off instantly. The piston is very reluctant to extend but it retracts smoothly and draws ink fine. Out of the box it wrote with a smooth very fine line that got better with smoothing.

Overall it is a decent pen, but without being able to readily disassemble it for maintenance there are better options (like the Geha Schulfüller) in the under $20 range.

Yes, I know, Hannover is nowhere near Schloss Neuschwanstein but the box sort of matched the mouse pad.
