From news I sighted it was suggested that incumbent party's typically fare badly (lose seats I suppose) in mid-terms. Meaning that in this one the Dems performed better than expected. Not sure if the first part is true though, and the second part is obviously a predicate.
This is conventional pundit wisdom, but really has only been the case since the Clinton administration; when the GOP first did it. There are major political shifts (I mean, who would have predicted Trump?). For fun, look at old electoral maps, from about Truman ('48) on.

Quoting for the folks that think I’m the nasty one.

    -edit-

Curiously there has been no acknowledgement, noting in particular the absence of those who find that commenting on careers is a particularly egregious offense.

We need a strong federal government and not having one is why the US was a pitiful failure during the worst months of the pandemic. The last 20 months have demonstrated why a strong federal government is useful. Even DeSantis loves a federal government when his state was left in destruction by the weather.

Saying nobody likes the federal government is the same as saying vaccines don't work, the Republicans can better handle inflation, and the Democrats can only win if the election is rigged. It is oft repeated, but just as false as "I alone can fix it".

We need a strong federal government as Ted Cruz notes:
“Why did Democrats do better than expected? Because they have governed as liberals.” And people appear to like a government that works on their behalf."

724, Kaz was asked a question by Ted about his interpretations on the Political Christian thread. He kept saying he was busy and it took him over a month to respond. When he did, Ted tried to engage and Kaz took issue with Ted's use of a term and the discussion dissolved into one of semantics and Kaz never could properly respond to Ted's inquiry. So, when Kaz asked me a question, I couldn't resist. Hopefully this brings you up to speed. I am sure Kaz understood the irony behind my response.

I quoted Ted Cruz. If you disagree that American's" prefer a government that works for them", take it up with Ted Cruz. Given the results of the election, I'd say there is more true about Mr. Cruz's opinion than not. And, perhaps you have come to understand that you're generations grievances are passing away into obscurity. As Morgan Freeman said, "get busy dying or get busy living". Your chose, 724.

You do sound like a person who is aggrieved. When a person learns that a democracy is where one person cannot have everything go their way, their lives take on a new sense of freedom. There is no reason to be grumpy and sullen unless you want to be.

Thanks for the explanation and for the "free" psychoanalysis.

Whereas you may be qualified to summarize a component of a conversation with which you are familiar, you have neither an understanding of how the human mind works nor of personality nuances to competently pass any judgment of what someone "sounds" like..... So, cut the Dr. Freud crap, Chuck.

You have missed, entirely, the point to Ted Cruz's "tongue in cheek" comment. What he was alluding to is the undeniable fact that the way liberals govern is by spending money they do not have and then providing massive amounts of free, unearned handouts
Our Country is way over-populated by deadbeats who firmly believe they are "owed" far more than they deserve and want everything for free. They prefer handouts over an honest day's work and expect everything to be paid for in spite of their paying nothing into the system to fund the initiatives. And then they have the gall to bad mouth those who do work hard and pay huge sums into the system to support them. Yes, these deadbeats love a government that works on their behalf and that's exactly what the liberals do.

724, my bad. I should have left you to wallow in your mud.

Cruz's comment was more a Freudian Slip. Given his education and experience, he is not stupid, he just pretends to be to stay in office. Either way, he is correct. Americans want the government to work for them and not just the privileged or those like Trump who cheat.

The deficient goes down when Democrats are in office, 724. Do your homework.

Do you know about Robber Barons? "These practices included exerting control over natural resources, influencing high levels of government, paying subsistence wages, squashing competition by acquiring their competitors to create monopolies and raise prices, and schemes to sell stock at inflated prices to unsuspecting investors.[2] The term combines the sense of criminal ("robber") and illegitimate aristocracy (a baron is an illegitimate role in a republic" The people who built the railroads used government subsidies on public lands and the charged the government for use. And you want to bitch about student loans, Medicare, and SS. Did you pay in to SS? Do you consider it an entitlement?

Can you use a tax deduction on your $80K pickup? The wealthy can!! Did you have to pay for tuition or did your children have to take out student loans?

Do you think Elon Musk ever created his wealth without taxpayer resources? Get you head out of the sand, dude.

You are stuck on a rodent wheel and you don't realize it. You are saying the same stupid things we all were told in the '80's. No one is asking for anything free. What they are asking is for some help and I for one understand that at times we all need some. Vaccines are free for a reason, friend. The more that get them the safer we all are.

The simple fact is, we got all do better if all do better. A college education should not prevent anyone from having a good life, nor should public universities with tax payer support be more involved in football that education. The GI bill post WW2 was a wonderful program that lifted people to greater heights. The Civil Rights movement allowed African Americans to have a chance to build wealth. Allowing the Dreamers a chance to thrive benefits them and us.

As long as you think its an us against them, you will never be all you can be with the time you have left. Your choice, 724. Please don't have another rant or hissy fit or call me names because it won't change a thing.

And when the "kleptocrats", as Eric Weinstein calls them, discovered it was profitable to work with those "Robber Barons"; they created political machines to maximize those profits.

All of which is a large reason the public's trust in government declines in relation to how far away it is from their locality.

I get it dude aka 724!! I used to think just like you. The "blah, blah, blah" is just something you don't want to hear. Hopefully you can question yourself and read more broadly before it is too late and someone has to wipe your butt after the morning constitutional. "A mind is terrible thing to waste".

    Not really, but keep trying.
