    Default Writing kit to go

When I want to write somewhere away from home base, this is what my to-go kit looks like. It's designed for a 13-inch notebook computer, but it's perfect for notepads, stationary, postcards and postage stamps. Fountain pens of various types are filled with a variety of inks and slipped into leather Pelikan cases which in turn fit in pockets. This method has served me well for a very long time. Notebook computers have gotten so thin that I can even slip one of those next to the stationary.

Usually I'll carry two or three Pelikan cases for six or nine pens to have a spot for my eyeglasses. But occasionally I can't resist taking more.

'Tis true; my daily-carry writer preference has evolved towards Sheaffers.

Old and fresh bird poop were once in the majority, but most of those were snapped up by guano fans as my attention shifted.

I neglected Sheaffer for the first few years of my collecting.
My first was a golden brown 5-30 Balance that for some reason i disliked. Years Later i tried it again and wondered what was wrong with me! This pen was great! A little small, but awesome! Since then I’ve made up for lost time…

To this point work carries have included a FP or two and pads.
If I vacation, stationery and a pen case go into a Filson bag, along with a book or two. [And a laptop for work, which electronically tags along.]
Six to nine pens: not yet, but I'll never say never.
Fred-do you carry additional ink? I usually do not, but once in a while tuck in a bottle when we're driving on a trip.

Rarely. I deal with having enough ink by the number of pens, choice by ink capacity and re-filling them before heading out.

In The Beforetimes? I traveled light. Slipped into a handbag with just room enough for a couple of pens, sheets of paper, and stamped envelopes.

    Now? I don't.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

I carry my stuff in a Bellroy tote bag. Laptop, notebook, books and pens of course, at least 3 in my 3 cigar leather case. The most important thing is that the tote bag can be worn as a backpack, as I often travel with my Brompton bike.

So I found this canvas folding pen holder which I loop over a sleeve in my backpack so I always have plenty of space for pens!! One side of the pen holder folds down on either side of the backpack sleeve and it doesn't take up too much room. (Obviously I can't figure out how to put the pictures in the correct orientation)

If that holds pens sideways, are you restricted to full-length pens that won't slide out?

Hi Fred.................. Dang brother A few OS Sheaffer's, one with a miltary clip, Pelikan 800?, 3 MB's, big 'ol Conklin and more Sheaffer Balances Not sure what the green one is?

Sheaffer Balances are always under rated coming in a variety of filling systems and nibs. I actually have a Sheaffer factory 3 tined music nib I got off Susan a ga-zillion years ago. Need to send out and get tines realigned as I went a little crazy 1 day years ago Love my assortment of Balances I have acquired over the years. Still use vintage Skrip blue/black pretty much in all of them.
