I wonder if any Fulton County District Attorney was testifying in court today...

The videos of Willis and Wade are demonstrations of how cross-examination is like being on a tight rope without a net. It may seem like fun to take the stand, but it’s not so much fun during the actual questioning. Plus watching the video gives you the full effect of voice tones, pauses, making faces that never appears in transcripts.

You can also follow the witnesses’ attempts to evade questions: trying to answer a different question than what was asked, attacking the lawyer, assuming the role of a victim, talking over the question and, occasionally, the judge. (Not a good move on my experience).

    Not good looks for W & W.

Isn't that the publication that claimed Poland invaded Germany, and won a Pulitzer for propagating the Trump/Russia collusion hoax?

I love historians. This is from HCR:
"Manafort began as an advisor to the Trump campaign in March 2016 and became the chairman in late June.

Thanks to journalist Jim Rutenberg, who pulled together testimony given both to the Mueller investigation and the Republican-dominated Senate Intelligence Committee, transcripts from the impeachment hearings, and recent memoirs, we now know that in 2016, Russian operatives presented Manafort a plan “for the creation of an autonomous republic in Ukraine’s east, giving Putin effective control of the country’s industrial heartland, where Kremlin-armed, -funded, and -directed ‘separatists’ were waging a two-year-old shadow war that had left nearly 10,000 dead.”

In exchange for weakening NATO, undermining the U.S. stance in favor of Ukraine in its attempt to throw off the Russians who had invaded in 2014, and removing U.S. sanctions from Russian entities, Russian operatives were willing to help Trump win the White House. The Republican-dominated Senate Intelligence Committee in 2020 established that Manafort’s Ukrainian business partner Kilimnik, whom it described as a “Russian intelligence officer,” acted as a liaison between Manafort and Deripaska while Manafort ran Trump’s campaign. The news comes out with Putin not only favoring Biden, but also having preferred Hillary in 2016; and HCR dutifully writes "Trump Russia something something Manafort something something Mueller Trump...".

That narrative is old and debunked.

I wonder if there's any documentation of the UK spying on Trump at the behest of the Obama administration?

Liz? You mean Liz Chaney. Would be interesting. I like a politician who can go against their own party.

I personally think Biden should drop out. Biden is Trump's only chance at taking back the white house.

"The seriousness of the prosecution can also be conveyed at sentencing. If Mr. Trump is convicted, Mr. Bragg should seek jail time. Each count of document falsification carries a term of up to four years in prison. Many individuals, including first-time offenders, are sentenced to imprisonment for this crime in New York.

Whether it comes to American business or constitutional democracy, individuals who flamboyantly and persistently flaunt the rules of a system must be deterred for that system to endure. That principle underlines the gravity of the forthcoming case in Manhattan, and the cases elsewhere, against Mr. Trump."

    From HCR today:
"On Sunday, former representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) came out and said it: the Republican Party has a “Putin wing.” She said: “The issue of this election cycle is making sure the Putin wing of the Republican Party does not take over the West Wing of the White House.” Conservative pundit Bill Kristol agreed, in italics: “The likely nominee of one of our two major political parties is pro–Vladimir Putin. This is an astonishing fact. It is an appalling fact. It has to be a central fact of the 2024 campaign.”

I don't personally want to live in a country ruled by a dictator., but apparently some here do.

"Aaron Rupar of Public Notice recorded her comments, spoken with the backdrop of the past week in everyone’s mind. Americans “deserve a real choice,” she (Nikky Haley) said, “not a Soviet-style election where there's only one candidate and he gets 99 percent of the vote.”

Thought this might be of interest, especially as I seem to remember that you read Bloodlands:

    From HCR today:
"More important than that, even, is that it shows that even in a strongly Republican state, 40% of primary voters—the party’s most loyal voters—prefer someone else. As Mike Allen of Axios wrote today: “If America were dominated by old, white, election-denying Christians who didn’t go to college, former President Trump would win the general election in…a landslide.” But, Allen added, “It’s not.”

Do you read HCR because you think she is providing you some information you were lacking, or because she says absurd things that soothes your troubled political soul?

SC has open primaries. Democrats came out to vote for Nikki and she still lost:

    - her home state
    - the state she was governor of

Here's how desperate the uniparty is:

    Chuck-
You often cite and agree with HRC on Trump.
Same for her position on abortion and IVF?

Paul Krugman makes a good point.
"So shouldn’t we aid these communities? We do. Federal programs — Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and more — are available to all Americans, but are disproportionately financed from taxes paid by affluent urban areas. As a result there are huge de facto transfers of money from rich, urban states like New Jersey to poor, relatively rural states like West Virginia.

While these transfers somewhat mitigate the hardship facing rural America, they don’t restore the sense of dignity that has been lost along with rural jobs. And maybe that loss of dignity explains both white rural rage and why that rage is so misdirected — why it’s pretty clear that this November a majority of rural white Americans will again vote against Joe Biden, who as president has been trying to bring jobs to their communities, and for Donald Trump, a huckster from Queens who offers little other than validation for their resentment."

Has Krugman been right about anything?

    This is my favorite:
