I've been car-less in the rural countryside for 11 years. No robust public transportation. 40 minute walk into the small town/train/bus. I have a 6 year old phone used as an alarm clock, a calendar, and for an occasional call. No so-called social media apps anywhere.

Does Elon send a driverless transportation unit to ferry you to town to share a beer with him?

    that sounds lovely.

my point is that we do not get to individually opt out of the effects of new technology when society adopts it.

M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.

I don't know that they are precisely linked, but the recent spam attacks certainly look like bots (i.e. not a person sitting there typing it all out) and it could be that the text is being generated in some manner of AI input (pens, for instance). Even if not now, there is no doubt that tools like chatGPT will enable very sophisticated spam attacks that will be increasingly burdenesome and annoying. Or worse.

Last night I check in and 5 of the 6 new post updates were spam. I've been reporting and flagging them for days, and last night I just said "fuck it", this is the owner's job. I came very close to making a public thread, calling out our owner/admin in the title. I held back. I might not in the future.

That’s crossed my mind, although I would be surprised if AI forgets to add a link in their spam and has to go back and edit the post.

Check out this story, which I just saw an hour ago:

A sci-fi magazine has cut off submissions after a flood of AI-generated stories

Yeah frightening. I wonder what Stockhausen would have thought of all this. At least he "wrote" his own music....

Look at this video. The software, however advance, is seemingly very much a reflection of who made it. Surprisingly politically correct, and what chance of any contradictory or alternative concepts being made? It`s like the autowritten codes for drivers and software, the words that flow are what is most likely expected, in some way considered correct, a well know path.

I guess since I'm deep in googleland, they invited me to try their AI version, Bard, I think they call it.

My test was to have it formulate a campaign to stop gun violence base on parameters I supplied. It was disappointing, both in tone and overall writing. Sounded like a mealy-mouthed politician doing a campaign speech. So, I don't see it being very helpful or useful for me.

What is interesting is the new Photoshop beta application of a good AI feature --- far more advanced and easier to use than anything Photoshop has ever done before. Looking forward to that. For people who know what makes a good image, this will be a useful tool.
