Default rOtring Tech Pen DIY flush solution?

rOtring cleaning solution is horrendously expensive here. I want to make my own.
I'm aware of the 'normal' pen flush, but bearing in mind that rOtring ink (enchre de chine) is waterproof, has anyone an idea of a formulation using easily available ingredients?
I've experimented with methelated spirits, which cleans the ink well and does no damage to the plastic parts.
Yes you can disassemble the piston and needle and clean, but it's a very delicate process especially with the finer nibs. Be nice to have a solution we can use to soak / clean.

Unfortunately, I do not know what the Rotring cleaning solution contains. (The last time I used it was over thirty years ago during my education as a draftsman...)

But I would like to quote Iņigo from Indigraph. Indigraph pens* are also designed for use with indian ink. Here is what Iņigo wrote to me.

...Bear in mind that you won't be able to clean indian ink with the ultrasonic machine using diluted alcohol.
Best solvent is ammonia, a few drops of ammonia with water will be the best option for cleaning as stated in the manual...
    Hope this helps.

Try Koh-I-Noor Rapido-Eze in an ultrasonic cleaner. It was developed for this exact purpose.

I have a bottle of Rapido-Eze that I use for my Rotring Isograph pens and it works really well. Sadly it's not available in the UK so I had to bring it back from the US once when I was there on holiday.

I pushed those things for 15+ yrs and found their cleaning fluid useless. Warm water just as good. Occasionally used to dismantle them if bad which was OK apart from the 0.1 which was always a gamble as the inner wire is just a hair. Shouldn't have any problems with the 0.3 or above.
As an afterthought, have you considered trying an ultrasonic cleaner? They weren't available back in my day and can be found quite cheap especially when used.

Well, no. Many times warm water is not at all effective, especially if dried. The mix of household ammonia and Dawn dish detergent diluted in water is often enough. In other cases you need something like Rapido-eze. An ultrasonic certainly does help. One with power under 50W is sufficient.

I understand your frustration with the high cost of rOtring cleaning solution. If you're looking for a DIY alternative, you might consider a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water, which can effectively clean waterproof inks without damaging the plastic components. Mixing a 1:1 ratio of isopropyl alcohol and water allows for a gentle yet effective cleaning solution.

While cleaning, ensure you disassemble the parts carefully to avoid any damage, especially with finer nibs. For long-term peace of mind regarding home maintenance, I recommend checking out choice home warranty reviews for insights on coverage that could assist with various household needs

Be very careful with alcohol and pens. It can damage some plastics, with celluloid being especially vulnerable. Some alcohols will dissolve the clear Sheaffer sections. Unless you know how the material will react, I recommend that you don't use it.

I clean all of my vintage pens in lukewarm water. It takes days as I leave them parts off well soaked in.
Also I have lost some nibs Rods due to accidental braking. The finest nibs like .25 is more vulnerable for braking up as they are not supposed to remove the nib rod completely.).30 or 0.25 Nib has a very finest Ink rod which is more difficult to re- insert ( unless you know how to do it ) after taking out.
The best option is to use a " Ultrasonic Bath " which I don't have. It is always helpful to have a cleaner to loosen the first laver of decades old ink crust/ gunk in the U/Sonic machine. Then using continual water soaking or Ammonia solution will also help to speeding up the cleaning but it is not necessary for me.
I have many Vintage tech drawing in all marks and it is a big collection now. Last week I bought three job lot Technical pens and I am waiting to receive them. So I have a long cleaning and restoration days ahead of me next week. Am I going to break nib ?? I am not sure..But I know how to avoid that step.

I've found that if you try to insert the wire into the nib nib, you are likely to bend it or break it. But if I just start the wire and drop it in, letting it find the center on it's own, it usually drops down through the tube just fine.

    Thank you
@Ron. You are right and you are the master of pens. If the pen tip is .1 /.2/ .25/ .3, I try not to open the Nib tip to separate the hairy rod. first thing that could happen is to get it bend so never go back home in the tip. If the rod is bent you need to get that hair straiten to fit back into the nib section.. That is how it get break while trying to straiten the hairy rod.

You are right ...If you just drop it back gently and keeping the section rotating until it find the way inn is the trick that you have to learn. I learnt it by making few losing of pen tips.
