Default EFNIR: Jacques Herbin Gris Orage

Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Jacques Herbin Gris Orage

This is review #216 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: Cleaning was quick and easy, but as usual, will take more time if you want to get all the glitter out. I had to floss after 1 day, and floss + prime the feed after ~3.5 days. This grey is pretty neutral (not cool or blue-leaning, not warm or brown-leaning). If there's shading, the glitter hides it. This ink likes to stain skin and is harder to remove than many inks.

Zoomed in photo (This is an almost perfect match to the color I see on the page.)

Screenshot (This seems a little too cool / blue.)

Scan of Completed Review (A little too cool / blue to my eyes.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (Both are very close to what I see. We were having a serious glitter moment when I made these. )

Line width (One of the lines used for dry time. Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 291µm. With 216 inks measured, the average line width is 295µm.)

Microscope image (100x. Glitter particles are in many colors, yet only gold is seen when writing.)

Previous Review: Platinum Classic Citrus Black.

The comments about the grey seeming too blue were made on my old laptop. Now, on my new laptop, I see they look about right. I think the screen on my new laptop has better color reproduction. (I have no idea how well your screen / monitor reproduces color. )

Does it still apply when the tool is sentient? Maybe it applies more.

lovely review - thank you Liz. I'm so enjoying this part of the story - it's just right for these cold gloomy days when a bit of gentle introspection and hygge are so appropriate.

I like Gris Orage. I've never decided whether I like it better with or without the shimmer - I think probably without, perhaps because I prefer cool-toned glitter to warm, but I love the almost holographic colours in the microscope view - what a shame they aren't all apparent.

Yeah. I don't do glitter inks any more, but I love the story, and your reviews. The micro reminds me of fancy papers that have stuff embedded in them.

And I will happily entertain any ideas on how to take back my life from these infernal machines. Other than, y'know, living in a cave.

@LizEF, again, thanks for EVERYTHING you do!

Thanks, mizgeorge! And you're very welcome. So glad you're enjoying the story.

Yes, that microscope image surprised me - and I wondered the same thing - why do I only see gold when there are so many colors here? I have no answer.

(I'll also note that unlike greeting cards, gift bags, and craft projects, I've never experienced glitter ink spreading glitter everywhere, let alone the apparent multiplication of glitter particles that seems to happen the moment you open one of those other things. I suppose it's possible for the glitter in ink to dislodge from the paper, I just haven't experienced an "infestation" like I have from other things.)

Oh, yes, it does look a lot like that, doesn't it.

Good luck! I live under a rock and still spend too much time taking care of stuff. My only suggestion is to kick as much as possible out the door!

Because the software is very out of date. That, or there's an obscure BB code for tagging.

Very thorough, and that's no small effort.

    Well done review.
