    Default Montblanc 3-42g nib advice

    Hello
I have a 3-42g with a fine(?) it write ok, but it is a bit scratchy and I put it down to being fine.
I took some pictures and wonder if it can be improved.
They are not fantastic pictures but I hope they show what may be the problem?
I assumed it was just fine nib, but the end does not look right.
I noticed it is marked with a 'M' now I wonder if it is a damaged medium?
Is it possible to repair it? I can keep using it as a sort of 'fine'.

Looks like an oblique nib-maybe an OM or maybe OB-to me. It also looks like there may be a crack from the breather hole down one of the tines.

What's marked on the piston knob opposite the 3-42G marking?

    Hello
    Thank you.
What appears to be a crack was a hair or fibre which was stuck to the nib.
It is marked with 'M-' on the end, the '-' Looks a deliberate mark and is not a hair!

I agree it looks like an OB nib. Could be that this pen started out with a medium nib which was later replaced.

That tip is wider than a fine. The nib likely only requires adjustment of the tines.

Sometimes MBs of this era appear with arrows or other markings next to the size on the piston knob. I'm not sure if anyone has ever figured out what they mean.

I agree that that's not an M nib. MB Ms of this era are probably only a touch wider than a modern F on an MB or Pelikan. It could be a nib replacement or piston/piston knob replacement.
