Default EFNIR: De Atramentis Archive Ink

Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: De Atramentis Archive Ink

This is review #219 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: I had a feeling this would stain (didn't want to come out of the pipette or off the walls at the bottom of the sample vial), so I put it in my Penmanship and a cartridge (one with a metal agitator ball). Cleaning wasn't as bad as it could have been. Nothing stained, but once the ink dries, it has to be scraped or rubbed off (e.g. from around the lip of the cartridge and off the shoulders of the nib).

It's a warm black, but from this nib, it just looks black.

According to the De Atramentis website, this ink has a lightfastness rating of 8 (the highest) and "is produced according to the requirements of ISO 12757-2".

Nice crisp black, with the globe of a strange new world in the 'scope shot. But scraping it off a nib? Hmmm, maybe not.

I knew I loved Makhabesh; pretty sure I've also fallen for Essri. Thanks so much for the review and serial!

Well, it scraped easily off the nib...

I love the idea of a little box of happy tears - I want one for myself now!

As for the ink. I can't ever imagine needing it - I have my Carbon Black, and that's enough for me. I have so few black inks as to be almost embarrassing, and CB is one of the only ones I ever use, along with Aurora Black which seems to belong in my old 88s.

Thank you as always Liz for a smashing review.

    Lovely review as usual @LizEf

Thank Tas - well, for the happy tears being captured in something. Boxing them up for protection was the High Wizard's idea...

Yeah, if I actually used black ink, this might appeal, but I don't, so... I guess if you suddenly couldn't get good paper, but could get ink, you might want to switch to this one - it was much better than PCB on poor paper, but otherwise, stick with what you love!
