    Default Learning from mistakes.

Mistakes can be valuable if we learn from them.

I was trying out these Conté crayons a couple of days ago. I just wanted to see how they would work on this mixed media paper. It's a doodle, not a connected drawing, but I thought it looked fairly interesting anyway.

After taking that picture, but before filing it away, I decided to spray it with some fixative so that it wouldn't rub off. I used Grumbacher final fixative, which I've used with charcoal drawings on different paper, and with which I never had a problem. Here's a scan of what happened this time.

    Live and learn. I hope.

Thank you for sharing the interesting drawing.

Perhaps the xylene or acetone in the fixative dissolved something in the crayons / pastel pencils? The French word for pencil is crayon.

The material data sheet for the pastel pencils doesn't provide much insight.
