    Default Is this mold?

I got a bottle of Conway Stewart Kingsand and it seems to have mold??

    Here are some pics:

The froth like thing in the bottle neck & cap is quite semi-solid and not like froth produced due to excessive shaking of ink bottle, its as solid as cream. On puffing hardly it doesn't move, on inserting a thin metal rod it goes inside but it doesn't seem to disturb it. I hadn't tried to smell it though.

I have decent amount of inks and have never experienced such. Its quite disgusting.

Do anybody know anything about it?

I would definitely pass on that ink.

Either get a replacement or toss it!

Contact CS, they might replace it.

In either case, don't fill pens with it. I'd say mold as well.

Yep, looks like a ferment to me. So, likely some fungal growth in there. I'd try hitting up CS for a replacement.

Tracy Lee, I had this problem with a sample of Lierre Sauvage. Didn't know what to make of it at first. I also had a bottle of Sheaffer Red that didn't have the mold but did smell "funny" which is tantamount to spoilage. Both instances have made me wary of J. Herbin and Sheaffer ever since. Depending upon where you bought the seller should replace it. With the Sheaffer this was Goulet and you can guess what they did! Bent over backwards to make it right!
I'm discovering vintage pens. Oh no!

I was just making a funny . . I have no doubt a you got great customer service out of the Goulets and glad you got it all resolved. Definitely unfortunate about the ink though. I am "so far so good" on my bottles, but I now keep an eye on them for sure.

Got a replacement bottle today, almost 5 months after I first contacted them. Though they didn't said a word about what it was and why it might have happened.

That's not a very impressive response time.
Online arguments are a lot like the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
As soon as the audience begins to participate, any actual content is lost in the resulting chaos and cacophony.
At that point, all you can do is laugh and enjoy the descent into debasement.

Based on this description, it's something nasty, for sure.

I agree that waiting months for resolution is terrible service, however.

Well you are in India, and the postal systems betw. there and everywehre else seem to be a bit sketchy in my experience as corresponding with a chap in India via InCoWriMo. But that's no excuse for not sending a note along. Pretty indifferent customer service. I'll make a note of that re: Conway Stewart.

Does Conway Stewart source their ink from Diamine? Bottle looks similar.

Five months isn't bad. I'm still waiting to hear from Herbin to replace a moldy bottle of 1670 red.

Diamine Bottles are made by Vetrerie Italiane Foresta in Italy. Presumably any ink maker could source them from here

    http://www.foresta.net/show.asp?categoria=60

However, if I were Conway Stewart, I would be sourcing my inks from Diamine instead of trying to DIY it or buying it from some no-name supplier. Just sayin'

There is definitely mold. In your house, too. Fungi are ubiquitous.
It’s a good thing, too, because without fungi many other organisms from oaks to orchids wouldn’t exist.

As for ozone generators, here’s what the EPA says:

“If used at concentrations that do not exceed public health standards, ozone applied to indoor air does not effectively remove viruses, bacteria, mold, or other biological pollutants.”

guyy, I believe the two brand new users above who have posted replies on this 7 year old thread recommending the purchase of ozone generators are just spammers and have reported them to the Admin.

(In the event that he removes them then I will also delete this post.)
