I agree PTFE tape is different from sticky tape but it would need to go on before the cap and for safety not after adding ink to the vial.

I'll have to try that next time. The tape I use is 3M Blue Painter's Tape that is sticky but designed to come off without leaving a residue. It has worked very well in the past.

Now that it's a new day and wasn't completely stressed out the way I was last night. Long story...
Examining the vials I have from the three different stores it appears (under a 10x loupe) that the plastic vials, caps, and little plastic gasket (for what it is) are all the exact same. I wonder if all 3 stores purchase their vials from the same distributor, which would explain the intermittent leaks. If it's like the way I used to buy disposables for the lab, it's a bulk 1000 vial case which then gets repackaged at the Pen store into 10 or 12 vials/ bag. And that distributor only buys from one particular (read lowest bidder) manufacturer. After all, the distributor needs to make a decent profit. I'll have to call around to some different stores (Jetpens, PenChalet, Goldspot, Dromgooles, etc) to see what vials they might have. I apologize for the frustrating leaks.

That's the tape we use when shipping PIFs. It has worked so far.

That must be so frustrating. Vials unpacked with the use of gloves and paper towels. It's difficult to tell which one, or ones, leaked. Later I'll be loading the pens.

I've used the blue 3M tape quite a bit for painting houses but usually use a different green tape since the 3M is more sticky and can pull fresh paint off. I don't think it's a problem of the caps coming loose since in the last round I tightened one down pretty good but it fell on its side and still leaks, which makes me think the threads and gasket don't quite line up.

Using plumbers tape will probably help its just a shame because that will be an added cost for James since the vials don't do what they are supposed to do.

I think I know which ink in mine leaked just from the color I saw on my gloves and from what I think looks similar in the vial. Luckily I always have gloves since my medic jump bag goes with me everywhere along with a blowout kit.

I might go ahead and do my chroma tests tonight depending on what time I get home from training. Obviously without posting any results until everyone has theirs

Is it just Yazeh in Canada who doesn't have the inks yet?

Yep, I don't know where in Canada it is. I hope not Vancouver, that's a continent away

I swabbed the inks last night as a precursor to selecting pens; I noticed the vials were tough to open. Wonder if that has anything to do with leakage?

What do you look for to decide what pen/nib to use with each ink. I aways just kind of guess which 4 of my testing pens would work but was curious to hear what others look for and think about when trying to match them.

I am a little ashamed to admit it, but this time I didn't want a piston-filler, and I DID want either a Lamy Safari lookalike, and an Al-Star with generous flow.

The inks seem to have settled in nicely, and on opening, closing, and re-opening the vials, they work fine, too.

I often use my usual testing pen, Lamy Safari and a Pilot Kakuna.
If the ink is saturated or in the pink/ red range, I would avoid vintage or piston fillers. It's a pain to clean

This looks like a Japanese inks, just from the chroma, look at the complexity of 51..

So far I've written on one of my regular review sheets with MI#51. It's a saturated brown ink. On the Xerox paper it didn't feel dry but it felt better with broader nibs. It showed good water resistance.
An attractive and unusual chroma test.

Here's my first try with MI #51.

This ink behaves well enough in my HeroFari, and has a dusty look that appeals to me.

Hmmm.... others are seeing things in this ink that have so far eluded me. Your chromas are spectacular and complex. Mine came out flat. Maybe it's my brand of paper towel. ❓
