    Wow this is exciting!
Would any of you have some Platinum blue-black to compare with MI#52?

I have a small writing sample I can put side by side with it as soon as I get a chance. I did look at them side by side and even tough the platinum was written with a EF nib and #52 with a stub nib you could see plenty of difference. The platinum was a paler, less saturated color compared to #52. But soon as I get the chance lager today I will try to get a good picture with the two side by side.

I had some difficulty cleaning #51 from the Soennecken. After a day of soaking, in the end I had to resort to my trusty Monteverde pen cleaner. It took 2 days to clean

First side by side is on optik white paper and second is on the copy paper I use on a daily basis

I never got it before but today when I wrote that little sample on the optik white with MI 52 I actually got the slightest bit of sheen, I can see it with my eyes but can't quite get the camera to pick it up, if I am able to get it on camera I will post

Good morning! It is now time for the Mystery Inks reveal.

MI #51 is a lovely brown ink from Pilot and is called Iroshizuku Yama-Guri.

    Link: https://vanness1938.com/products/iro...95efa6c8&_ss=c

MI #52 is another Pilot ink but from the inexpensive side of town. Typically found in the free ink cartridges included for the Pilot Kakuno ($12.50) to the Pilot Custom 845 Urushi ($ 900), this ink can also be purchased in the bottle form. It is Pilot Blue-Black.

    link: https://www.jetpens.com/Pilot-Blue-B...Bottle/pd/3993

MI #53 is from a company known for their extremely saturated and sheening inks. But they also make a line of inks called Ernest's Vintage Writing Fluid Series, that are friendly to vintage pens and easy to clean. This ink is Organic Studios Oscar Copper.

    Link: https://vanness1938.com/products/org...9ad8c43c&_ss=c

I hope all the participants (both testers and readers) had fun with this round of Mystery Inks and THANK-YOU all for participating.

    Stay Safe and Healthy.

The water resistance made me think of Platinum BB, but in the end it was just Pilot BB instead

Oh, I quickly dismissed Yama Guri as I was sure it was grayer like R&K Sepia. My other guess was Sailor Doyou, but the testers would have caught the "Sailor smell" so I had dismissed this one too

Thank you so much junglejim. As is usual with the reveal I didn't guess the correct ink for any of them. Doh! Consistency at least.

I have a few other blue-blacks that I haven't tried yet but don't have pilot blue-black to compare it to, I kind of wondered if #52 might be a blue-black

Well at least I'm glad, I knew that the first one was Japanese Plus an ink, I had read so much about
But the other two I was completely off track.
Thank you so much @junglejim, this one was a fun ride. I always wanted to test Ernest's Vintage Writing Fluid Series, so thank you.

Thank you so much junglejim again for the generosity in hosting this.

I was way off with my one guess thinking 53 might be a diamine ink.
I have some samples of pilot iroshizuku and a few weeks ago when I picked one to try I almost went with Yama-Guri but instead went with Fuyu-Syogun (my first time using iroshizuku line of ink that I can think unless it has been one of the older mystery inks) and now that I think of how that ink felt writing in the same pen I can see the similarities now.

The only blue-black I've tried so far before this was platinum blue-black, always wondered what the fuss was about, the platinum was just okay to me but the pilot blue-black I thought was a nice looking color to use as a daily carry pen when you may not want to use a flashy color. I will definitely need to get a bottle of the pilot blue-black at some point.

The organic studio quickly became my favorite, very interesting that it could look more red, more orange, or more brown depending on the paper being used.

Once again thank you James for everything you do to bring us this amazing event.

I'm still cleaning Yama-Guri. Last night I had to let the pen soak in a vial of pen cleaner. This morning the solution was cloudy. When I wrapped the pen in a tissue there was slightly black stain on the paper. Cleaning piston fillers is not fun

And I am cleaning the Pilot BB from my Lamy AlStar… the lazy way. Dumped the section and cartridge into a plastic water container and left it overnight. In the morning, the water was dark blue. Rinsed and refilled. I wonder how long this will take. 😆

Three sessions of passive cleaning completed on 52/AlStar. Somewhat active cleaning begins: flushing cartridge with syringe, flushing section with my home made section-flusher (plastic pipette with end cut off).
