I thought it would be nice to create a spin off thread on more specific matters. So here I go:
We know that the Japanese pocket pen --long-short, mini, etc-- was created by Sailor in 1963. Pilot joined the club in 1969. And not much is known about when Platinum marketed its first pocket pen.
Checking on my collection I see that the earliest Platinum pocket pen I have is dated as having been made February 1967 (242, more on this later). Actually, the date belongs to the nib, and there are no dating marks on the body, but that is all the information I have so far.
This is the pen:

The manufacturing date is engraved on the back of the nib. The code is on the form aaBB, where aa is the month (1-12), and BB is the year in the Japanese calendar. On this case, pens made in the 1960s, year 1 was 1925--the year when emperor Hirohito was crowned. Therefore, year 42 corresponds to 1967. (https://estilofilos.blogspot.com/201...-platinum.html)
We could, collectively, find out a date for the release of the first Platinum pocket pen...
Hope this triggers some reaction on the community.
Cheers,
BT
