Default Sumgai with a small problem

Three euros for a Waterman red ripple 52V? Most unusually, for me, I didn't haggle!

However, there is one small issue; the nib has a small crack running up from the breather hole. I can feel it, but it isn't really visible.I seem to remember the right way to fix this is a little gold solder, and as it happens I have a small piece of gold solder that cost me a lot more than this pen... but I am sure there are people on the forum who can weigh in with some advice before I make any mistakes :-)

A little gold solder may be the fix you need but preparation, application and cosmetic after care are usually a very skilled job. You might be an expert jobbing jeweller but just in case you are not I might talk to one before attempting to do it myself in this instance.

If I had it I would send off a request to "The Repair Shop" You never know.

It can be done with a tiny chip of the right solder (ie 14k for most nibs), but if the crack is small, I'd tend to have it laser welded these days, not least because it's so much easier to finish, and is less likely to alter the temper of the nib.

    Congrats on the find!

I am a reasonable metalworker in gilding metal and brass, but I might take the pen when I next visit a more highly skilled friend. Thanks guys! I was so thrilled to see the pen lying there and even more thrilled when I heard the price!
