    Default My Humble Collection…so far

Hello everyone! I’m still very new here and to the hobby itself, but I just wanted to share my little collection so far and maybe get any info that anyone may have on some of these. In particular, I have no idea about the Stratford. I’m not even sure it’s complete , there is no sack or converter but there appears to be a “button” mechanism on top for filling. From left to right they are: Pilot Metro “M” nib (actually swapped nibs with the pilot Kakuno), Jinhao X450 M nib, Pilot Kakuno M nib, Lamy Vista LH nib, Esterbrook J 2556 Nib, Sheaffer AC 181 with a “Fingernail” nib, and the Stratford that I have no idea about. Thanks in advance for any feed back or info.

I don't know about the Stratford, but I have the same 450, named 'Rogue.' And a Vista. And more than one Metro. Nice collection!

Any way to get inside the Stratford? If not, how do you know whether it has no sac or converter?
My other pen is a Montblanc.

The nib end goes in and out too easily. I guess it’s a friction connection and it’s just worn.

The Stratford company was originally Salz Brothers, You can read more about them here and other places:
    http://www.richardspens.com/ref/gloss/S.htm#salz
You will read that their Stratford pens are not considered high end, but good start on your collection!

From my limited knowledge, it does look like a button-filler that needs a sac. I can't recall if these used J-bars or...wait, I think they use pressure bars. Both sac and pressure bar are missing? The metal disc that's exposed when you've taken off the blind cap...does it move at all?

Yes, it does seem to go up and down.

That's a good thing. Inside the barrel, can you see anything that looks like a metal bar in a U-shape?

    The above might help.

I can’t see anything in there. It looks like anything that’s supposed to be there may be missing. Here’s a pic of inside the barrel.

Your Stratford is a button filler. It needs both a sac and a straight pressure bar. I would have to have the pen in hand to know which one - there are different sizes, and likely will need to be cut to length to fit that specific pen.

Hey there! Welcome to the forum. Glad to hear you have such an impressive collection of bikes!

As for the Stratford, it really depends on the model. Depending on the year it was made, you may be able to access the inner components by removing the bottom bracket. However, if you're not comfortable with that, you could also use a magnet to check if there is a converter or sac inside. Good luck!

I got momentarily confused; Stratford's also a make of bone china I was looking up. 😂
