    Default Monteverde blue/black

I finally opened a large bottle of Monteverde blue/black ink that I’d neglected for years. Using a firm medium nib on a Rhodia pad, I was surprised how washed out the color appears, almost like medium to light gray. Some people like that hue. This is the only Monteverde ink I’ve owned.

Has anyone else who has used Monteverde ink have an opinion to share, especially blue/black?

I can't say about blue/blacks, but there are a number of Monteverde inks that I regularly use and enjoy. I've used Malibu Blue and Yosemite green for a good number of years, and recently started using Canyon Rust and Moonstone in pens that are for regular correspondence. I've enjoyed a few different, very vibrant blues - their particular DC Supershow Blue (can't remember year) was really nice, and my go-to for a mid/bright blue is their Horizon Blue. Unfortunately, a recent bottle when bad a few months after ordering, the first ink I've had go bad in years. Still, I'd like to replace it, but I have so damn many blues at the moment!!

I've always found them to flow every well and they have a wide variety of colors. While I've recently been bummed out with a number of ink purchases that ended up too light or washed out, I've not had any Monteverde inks in that category.

I've never tried Blue/black but I have tried some Monteverde inks and like them. I recently wanted some to use as ingredients for an ink I needed to reproduce and one that I used was Canyon Rust. Not sure if it's still a current colour from Monteverde but there are several that are no longer available on Amazon UK now.

If I remember correctly Junglejim also had a problem with one of their purple inks going bad soon after purchase.

Is the dye breaking down and/or separating? Had you opened it and tested it before?

I held the bottle up to sunlight and see no particulate. It's a 90ml bottle opened today. I cannot recall when I added it to my ink box. I'm going to give it a second chance in a Sheaffer Balance II with a broad factory stub.

I have a lot of MV inks, and Blue Black does have a grayish cast. It's also the driest ink I know, so I only use it in gushers. Later I can test my bottle with a glass pen and see what it looks like.

Okay, Fred, is this what you're seeing?

Azure Noir included since it looks so similar.

I think you're onto something. The stuff hardly flowed from my Connaisseur. If someone wants the bottle for postage, consider it PIF and let me know real soon.

yes. That was a problem a while back. Some bottles were contaminated and smelled like sulphur. I got 'lucky' a couple of times with two bottles… but MV replaced them.
