    both his mother AND wife (after giving birth two days prior) died that day

    This Roosevelt note is exactly my interest, handwritten notes by people of history.

    There is an excellent website and series of books called

    Www.lettersofnote.com

    Books of the same name, Letters of Note, which includes a facsimile and transcript of letters, a darn good read imho.
