What a powerful letter. It resonates even more today.

Thinking of my uncle, Jimmy Naylor, who landed at Omaha Beach with the 29th Division, Maryland National Guard. They were in the lead wave, and Uncle Jimmy was the only guy in his platoon to survive. So says family legend, but Uncle Jimmy refused to talk much about it, and nobody pressed him to talk. Our friend, Richard Morgan, jumped into Normandy with the 101st Airborne, and again in "Market Garden" and maybe a third time. Richard would not talk about Bastogne; we did not know he had won a Purple Heart until he took it out to march with several generations of the 101st in an anti-war protest twenty years ago.
